Who else goes through playstyle phases?

As I've been playing through the years, I've found myself going through different phases for what I like to play with before circling back around again. Sometimes I prefer to play pump, other times I'll be on a stock class kick for a while, then I'll find myself in a mechanical, magfed, or even an electronic phase before going back around to another playstyle. What about you guys? Do you find yourself sticking with one tried and true setup or do you like to mix it up once in a while?

Stock Class is my passion, but I dabble in other formats. I have tried mag fed a bunch of different times I still have a DAM. But I would much rather just stick feed a pump when Im in the mood for limited paint. I really only use my electro/Semi markers for specific Tournaments/practice. But I like to keep one of every play style just in case. But Stock Class is for sure my go to as long as the weather is warm enough so I’m not wasting 12g. I don’t necessarily stick to one format more then I play what’s available when I feel like it. That’s why I like to keep a setup for each style.

I love playing pump, that doesn't change.

My "flavor of the month" play style shifts. I've been enjoying my gmek lately, last year I was all about stick-feed blowbacks, and in 2019 I was rocking my Shoebox and Etha a lot. Comes in waves and seems to be influenced by my current projects or purchases.

What the hell is a shoebox?

I've come across the name many times and even though I started being able to recognize specific FBM bodies and such I never saw a picture of something that was called a shoebox.

Shoeboxes are the old Shockers that were pretty much a brick with a trigger and a barrel attached.

I mix it up every few years. Was with mech & electro (lots of old BE stuff) before 2008, bought a pump to save on costs after the economy crashed, got into old mechs again (finally breaking myself into cockers) in maybe 2010, picked up a good electro 3 years back, tried more pump & eventually stock class last year, now back to mech.
I see myself sticking with mech for a long time this time, though. The urge to simplify things is getting stronger as I get older.

Well i no longer use electros. Save maybe a e framed stbb or my rainmaker for s**** and giggles. Had some fun with magfed but won't do it ever again. No more tourney space guns, just waste paint. Love pump, not really into stock class because i have to wear a pack with those tubes. But ill get some anyway eventually so i can do stock class games.

I like swapping up depending on the situation. With my Phantom and CS2 I can go SC, open class, mech or electro with the turn of a few screws. Anymore though my Phantom is rocking a 100 round hopper and a 9ci tank for recball and the CS2 is for tournament play

I play pump every time I go to the field but I always take several markers including automags and cockers. Generally, I setup my pump and use that for the first few games, then in between games, I slowly get a mag or cocker setup. Once it is setup, chronoed and ready to go, I generally pick it up for an outing or two then go back to pump.

Really, it is just me dabbling with my toys between games and eventually something else is setup and ready to play so it gets a game or two.

but to answer the original question, I dont really change my style as time goes on. In fact, I am terrible with a semi.

Yeah, I played stock class for a while, but I think I'm done with that because I hated having to fill and carry 10rd tubes around. Pocket-hoppers FTW! I play open-class pump at least 90% of the time, and lately even when I play mech I don't really shoot much more than I do with my pump gun, but I definitely used to play mech a lot more. Recently I've been thinking about trying out an electro, but I'm having a hard time justifying another marker that I'll probably rarely use.

I change markers so frequently it's hard to say what type of phase I'm in now. If I'm planning on playing tournaments I'll stick to my electros capped at 10.5 (but not necessarily modern ones, one of my main tourney guns is a PM6 and its now 15 years old!). Since I've been playing more mech events, my emek and cockers are never too far from my gearbag.

But next month is a pump only day at Xtreme Paintball Park, so you know what I'll be shooting then.

I started in the late 90s. The first two markers I bought I still use today lol.

I have tried a bunch of stuff from electros (deffinetly not for me) to first strike mag fed (cool but way to complicated).

So for me it’s always boils down to either a mech semi (usually pro/carbine or Automag) or a pump (mostly various Nelson’s but switched to a Azodin mostly in 2011)

Started out with a phantom and gradually got more into pump, picking up a ccm t2 and a carter buzzard, but later on started getting into mags and cockers. Now since getting my first phantom back, I've been playing more pump like I used to do when I got into paintball

Yep, this is me. I can't justify having a bunch of different markers (right now) but if I could, I would have "one of everything". I get a bug for stock class once in a while but then want to play mech semi but then want to just play open class pump (snipers) but then will want a smooth up to date electro. But right now I can get away with a sniper as the primary, and have a workhorse 'cocker for when I want to hear that sewing machine sound and shoot faster than 2 BPS.

I've always been strictly mech since I started. Pump play never had any draw for me until recently, and I just haven't been able to set aside the funds for a nice one. I briefly dabbled with electros for a few months with a Etek 3 I got here. I loved it, great build quality and reliability, but I just hate electros in general and it felt cheap using it in recball. If there was a mech conversion for Ego's/Eteks, I'd be all over it. As it is, I stick with my mags and Emek, plus some random Tippy's and other stuff. My playstyle has only really changed because of age and injuries. I used to be a front guy, always running and really aggressive. Now I've slowed down and tend to play like a middy, and try to be patient more than the old days.

My local field is woodsball only. I played mech with blowbacks almost exclusively, but with the automag and mg100 I bought this year, that might change. I've tried playing pump once with a Hammer 7. I wasn't particularly impressed with it. I've had the opportunity to play with a pump a few times since then, but tbh the clientele wasn't the greatest on those days, and I wanted something I could use to keep up.

Around 4 years ago I was watching a lot of qmto videos, and I got an itch to try airball. Unfortunately none of the local fields host airball games that allow people to actually learn how to play positions/bunkers without getting their teeth kicked in.

Prior to the pandemic I was mostly playing with a bulky, modified Tippmann teetering on the edge of working and not, and a heavy gxg vest with a full helmet. Since then, I picked up a JT spectra and I'm mostly playing hopper ball with a sport shot and 13/3k on whatever I'm running. Whatever I run now is much more simple and reliable, very refreshing.
