Most bolt 'upgrades' drive me nuts. At least in the case of Planet Eclipse I have a hard time believing PE spends less time on bolt design for their markers than a company like TechT.

Any Parabolic barrel I see generally grinds my gears.

Just based on their going rate these days I'll call out AKA Vikings as well... but that's probably just because they're so expensive I can't justify picking one up for nostalgia since I have an Etek5 and LV already sitting in my closet.

In my experience everything that comes out of Tech-T is pure snake oil, but then again I've only had a few of their parts and all for the Tippmann 98....

Wow so much stuff that I like, and I’m old, you guys hate: joggers, strapless packs, PPS, etc. lol oh well.

To me overrated would be Tippmann 98’s, scopes, remote lines, masks without a visor.

Right? I love PPS and I wear joggers all the time, just not for paintball. It's not cause I don't like them it's because I'm an oaf and I would destroy them in two seconds in the woods.

I recently came to my senses and finally put a visor back on.

Soft tipped bolts are my least favorite item in paintball. I don't know if anyone highly rates them, but I fully hate them.

Also flexible rubber detents of any kind that wear out and need to be thrown away. I've got wire detents that came with a gun a zillion years ago that still work. I've got ball detents from a zillion years ago that still work.

    Rubber nubbins? Please kill me.

O rings are OK since they are available from hardware store, but spyder style man thats the worst.

I paid something like $20 to get a few different durometers of kingman detents to see what worked for my old T2. And this is after digging up my parts bin and finding a bag of the nubbins that had like....melted or something. Ughhh... So many options that aren't a PITA. Even ASP mod is a good alternative.

This is the ultimate curmudgeons thread. Thank you!

I too want to echo electronics. The only modern day spacegun that I own is my Mini GS LE. It's freaking soul-less. Like in the Fifth Element with Zorg demoing the new gun to the Magalores and the tracking bullets were hitting the mark. Don't get me wrong, I very much welcome accuracy, but there's just something inherently different from my (non-mech) Ion and EM1. There's just something missing and I can't put my finger on it.

The only gun I have ever bought new was a mini GS, and that gun has so little personality I rapidly grew to completely hate it and sold it once I started getting back into paintball again. Only gun I both never had a single problem with and also completely hated with a deep burning passion.

PPS stuff. No quality control. When I get a dozen quickswitches brand new, and every single one leaked out of the box---jesus christ. I understand that they are trying harder now, but that was ridiculous on every level.

Joggers. God do I hate these.

Most barrels---a tube is a tube. If you have a freak kit or bore your barrel out for one, you're good to go. The rest is basically just picking one that you like the look of.

The difference of a few ounces between markers. Once you toss a tank and loaded hopper on there, you really will not care about the 3 ounces bc you won't feel it.

Spending a ton on headbands like a Sandana. I just don't get it, and never will. Same for the crazy money that people spend on JT stuff. It's just not something I get at all.

Most shooters of FRS. There's nothing wrong with the equipment itself. It works. But most players trying to shoot them aren't really all the effective with them at distance---which is the only place they produce an advantage. That advantage flips as soon as I move up. When I am playing in a scenario, the lack of volume can really bite you in the bum. There are players that can be very effective with them. There are just a whole lot that aren't as well.

Pretty much all paintball stuff is over rated if you are listening to the advertising or the fan boy opinions. The claims are always greater then the delivery.

I would agree for the most part, but techt has some voodoo that actually makes them work. I mean there's videos of them and others just switching out bolts on guns and getting an immediate appreciable fps gain.

I have an L7 in my Ion, and had one in a Rail, and I really like them. I also have their Cyclone parts in my 98C, and they've lasted 12 years or so.

I'm going to beat up on the TIPX pistol for a minute.

From the outside, i like the blocky aesthetics and I think it looks cool. I like that the option for a remote line was included in the design...

But my like of the TIPX disappeared as soon as I saw one opened up for replacing parts , or servicing leaks! OMG, what a slapped together pile of dogs breakfast! It's like a claymore mine just ready to explode, and send all the small, easy to lose internals flying all over the place, never to be seen again.

Case in point, see this screenshot of Rory from ANS trying to isolate a basic leak, and look at the measures he had to resort to!

Granted , pistols have never been my thing, but if I were so inclined, I'd be staying miles away from this one. If i ever want a pistol one day, I'll be jumping on here and picking up some BRASS!

I have owned/own and used in game a PGP2K, Tiberius T8.1 and a T9.1, And the Tippmann TIPX.

Of those the only one I presently own is the PGP2k.

Of the semi auto pistols I found The t8.1 and 9.1s to be slightly easier to maintain but far more costly to run .

The biggest reason I have stuck with the pgp when I feel like playing pistol (that’s very rare) is a the pgp just feels so damn cool is so much easier to maintain AND I don’t need a silly vest or any thing special to play with it. Just my stock class wrist harness and a shot gun belt if I so choose.

Running a vest with the pistol mags became more bulky I found and cumbersome than shooting my full size mech semi auto setup so it defeat the purpose of playing pistol. And that’s the main reason I not a fan of mag fed entirely. The setups become more cumbersome.

For me I honestly found I shot all the pistols more so in my yard at home for fun than actually playing at a field with then. Which is why I sold all but the PGP and more recently I picked up a Umarex t50. Shoot it in my basement with some rubber rounds. Never plan to take to field so don’t care about the velocity. And the PGP is mostly a wall hanger these days but when I get the itch to some on field pistol play it’s ready to go and is my preference.

The first time I saw one one of these was at Monster Game. It was broken, obviously. A kid was running back and forth between the chrono area and Tippman themselves who always have a mega booth there for that event. I don’t think they ever got it fixed. It’s an amazing looking POS.

One thing that cannot be overrated: the awfulness of GI Sportz.

As long as you don't need to tech, or are very good at it, the TiPX is the best sidearm IMHO. When you have to open that clamshell, however, oh hell no!! I've used the PGP, T4E, FSC, TiPX and SA17, and the most reliable and accurate FOR ME has been the TiPX. It's also usable as a primary.
