Origin of "Hawaiian Style" marker setup?

Question from the MCB Discord chatter. Anyone know the details of the when/who/how CO2 forward became known as "Hawaiian Style"?

I remember the origins of the term on stock class paintball dot com... Not sure on timing or why but I clapped back by declaring a "new York style" 12 gram set up that put the bucket changer on a aluminum feed tube block.

From my understanding the style was popularized by the Hawaiians hence the name. They have a big stock class following in there state and the Name just stuck. Revived buy social media and the need to give everything a name similar to using “Ninja” for an all black marker.

I don't think its origins are even Hawaiian. I believe the setup actually got its start in California.

Also true. Although stock class was/is super popular in Hawaii/SoCal. I tried doing some research on Hawaiian style, an old reddit post came up and the user said stock class was really big out there since paint is expensive to import so makes sense to play stock class (or something like that)

that would explain the many many stock feed with mini CO2 tank rather than 12g if physical import is the bottleneck

There was an argument about whether it should be called "island style" instead, because it started somewhere else...but Hawaiian sounds cool. Haha

It was Diomedes , he invented the Hawaiian bottle setup. Story goes he was eating a pineapple, watching "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" on VHS, all at the same time as tuning his Phantom, and the Hawaiian tank configuration was born!

Thank you for that.
It was called "Deer Island", hence the term "Island Style". And they would flank the other team by swimming or wading and wanted to keep those old thermo tanks and fittings out of the water.
This was before more modern ASA's.
However I later heard it was Earon Carter who first turned around a bottom line ASA after Tippmann brought them to market in '87.
Since He was in Hawaii at the time, the term Hawaiian style became popular, if misnamed.

I always heard it was called Hawaiian style because it looks like the marker is "hanging ten", and surfing is big on Hawaii. Never knew the NH island story.
