Should We Do Forum T-Shirt?

Is anyone interested in getting a Carter Brown t-shirt done?

We could use a print on demand service such as Teespring and sell at cost or put a margin on the shirts and donate the profits to the running costs for the site.

To get the ball rolling here is a design I did 15 years ago. It would be simple to add a Carter logo or URL.

For the design, however, I would go with the less-is-more approach. The more stuff that's on the shirt, the less likely I am I buy one.

Why not just make a plain shirt with lettering across the chest? Something like this, perhaps, but it says "M. Carter Brown" instead of Penn State.





I could also really get behind a T-shirt with just the "Combat Manual" image on it, especially if it was a black t-shirt with white lettering. But we'd have to figure out who made it and then get permission. I seem to remember that JonM knows more about it than I do. Hopefully he can chime in.

I would buy a tasteful Combat Manual shirt, and a simple "less is more" style shirt. Sites like teespring would let there be a variety of options for color combos on a simple "less is more" type of design. I would be interested in seeing more ideas like some brass and wood and hawaiian combo shirts with MCB logoing as well.

In my experience a design printed in white ink allows for a variety of dark colored shirts. I like to make the design simple and starndard while the shirt creates the color.

Durty Dan. Can't remember anything beyond that for certain. There was a thread on the old forum that had a bunch of sleuthing but I can't figure out how to search the wayback machine to find it.
I think we can safely consider it public domain and do what we'd like as he's either dead or no longer active in paintball.

Okay, reposting a bit from the old site:

One, no, Durty Dan didn't draw that. I'd thought he had, but it was later shown to have been drawn by a Jon somebody, as I recall, and originally posted in a very early issue of APG.

Two, I have both the original (that is, the GIF that was posted all over) and a larger copy that I cleaned up. The larger copy is easily high enough resolution to be used either as a screen or Teespring/Zazzle/etc. artwork.

And three, as I noted in the old-board thread on this subject, I have a full screen-printing suite already in-house. I don't have it fully set up yet- I've had one or two other things on the list - but point in fact, a buddy's coming by today to help me on that very project. I've been slowly clearing out a spare room to make space for the shirt press and stuff, and we were going to hang more lights and get the conveyor dryer set up.

I can easily add some MCB flourishes to the artwork, but the rights/licensing, etc. could indeed be an issue. Personally, I suspect the chances are the original artist has long since moved on to other things, and likely wouldn't even care if he knew about it, but that certainly can be an issue.

Arguably my "cleaned up" copy might qualify as original art, but then again, I could also draw something from scratch- for example, using slightly more modern markers and masks - and bypass the whole issue.

It would be awesome if your press could handle everything, but I'm wondering about late-comers to the party. If we arrange something now and then someone finds this thread in six months or two years, will they still be able to order something? Or will they have missed out? If we order from a t-shirt site instead, do those same limitations apply, or is it more flexible? I'm not against you doing it, but I want there to be options. I've missed some neat stuff in the past (the AO jerseys come to mind) just because I wasn't on the forum for a few months. I missed out and there was never enough demand to do another order after the initial one.

Regardless of the t-shirt, I think a "modernized" or re-imagined Combat Manual would be cool.

Agreed on the not-white. I like heathered greys and blues. White gets too dirty and black is too common and extra hairy.

I agree too. I'm fine with white being an option. But I'd much rather a light grey or dark blue or almost anything else.

But if new art is required- although I can't see the volume of shirts being big enough anyone's going to care- an update with a PGP, an M98, some mil-sim monstrosity, and back to a PGP, with the first guy wearing a hoodie and the last guy wearing a Hawaiian shirt, would work pretty well too.

-If I were to make them, it'd be a 'preorder' arrangement. Maybe with a down payment, maybe not. Depends on my personal funds, and at the moment, it's pretty dang low. But either way, you'll be able to specify size and color.

If we do use the combat manual image, or some variation thereof, I do think it should say paintball manual instead of combat manual. Like this version.



When I see the image on this forum, I obviously know what it's referring to, but to the uninitiated, I could see "combat manual" starting some strange conversations.
