Barrel Identification, revisited...

Some of you may remember my old barrel ID guide. Coming up on 20 years old now, and badly out of date.

I've been meaning to update it, and add a bunch of threads that aren't listed- and maybe even add some actual specs. I had posted something like this on the old MCB, but as always, time got away from me, and I never got around to actually updating anything.

I know the page is missing the later two Angel threads, Model-98 thread and Ion. Can anyone think of any others?

And, if anyone wants to add to the descriptions- about a hundred more markers that take 'Cocker threads have come and gone since I originally posted that. Plus more Tippmanns, Spyder threads, etc. etc.

I use the barrel guide pretty frequently in eBay and Craigslist transactions. Thank you very much for putting it out there.

I'd love to get some more tech specs so I can try things like cutting down a Brass Eagle Raptor barrel to fit a Brass Eagle TigerShark.

There was an AMAZING barrel thread resource on old MCB. It had all the measurements, tap and die sizes, and wonderful pictures. User name was msm something or other. Unsure what happened but something offensive must have because the user deleted all the info.

It was really sad to see that info lost as it was so in depth and so well done. I'm looking forward to having the barrel info once again.

Part of the reason I brought it up is that I've spent the last few evenings fiddling about with my dimensioned drawings for barrel threads. I've had another batch of Freak Backs in the works for way too long, and I need to get those finished up- and part of this batch will be some of the "nonstandard" threads, like ICD.

I just drew an Ion thread, and old Shocker last night, and that brings me up to an even dozen drawings. I started thinking about adding the drawings to the Barrel ID page- they're not by any stretch "official" dimensions, and only a typical 2D "blueprint" type drawing rather than a 3D model, but would probably be good enough for somebody to 3D print, or turn in their own shop.

And, of course, I recalled from the old-MCB thread that there were a ton of other barrels that never made it onto the page.

Equalizer- that's a great help, sir! I hadn't heard about the difference in Phantom barrels, nor run across it myself. Are you sure it wasn't somebody's slightly-off aftermarket barrel?

I'm almost wondering if it's even possible to make a full list of all the guns that have ever been threaded for 'Cocker barrels.

I found the thread! https://www.mcarterbrown.com/forum/p...phantom-barrel I'll have to swap some of my own barrels to see if I have one of the odd ones. I swore I did when I came across this before.

I organized a list of suppliers for my company by creating a Google Doc that everyone can view and edit (its was unlocked, but Google tracks spreadsheet changes so you could tell if someone accidentally erased the whole thing and then recover it). I'm fairly certain it can be set for any email login, so you don't have to have a google address to access it. We could put up a list and let people add whatever compatible markers they can remember. Last night I added the PT extreme and then looked at VintageRex to jog my memory for other missing barrels. That could be a good way to crowd source an Autococker List too. I'll see if I can share a test document with you.

A while back the original ProAm barrel threads stumped us all. They're the same as Prolite threads but the threaded section is about twice as long. As such, they do not fully thread into Prolites/A5s but it will work vice versa.

Without having seen EQ's list, I did come up with some others: BE Raptor, TASO Spartan (and I think the Gladiator was threaded the same) and the Storm.

The Daystate Patriot had a removable barrel. I briefly owned one in the nineties. I have no recollection what threads though, although I might be able to find out. I'll get back to you on that matter.

The F2 Illustrator came in both F1 threads and with the slip fit retaining screw setup that sounds very similar to the Mirage you have listed. I can take pics and measurements of the slip fit.

I also have a goofy Illustrator clone that has a twist lock barrel with grooves cut in the shape of an F. It's called the Laser.

And the new T15's have their own twist lock setup.

Knew of, but had forgotten about the Laser. Haven't had one of those in the shop in decades.

T-15 reminds me there's also the Tiberius pistol, and technically the Tippmann pistol- though that one has the same thread as the ProLite/Carbine/Chronus, et al.

Since you've worked on a Laser, I gotta ask, do you know if they have an internal air line down the side of the body? Mine is leaking back by the hammer out of what appears to be a tiny hole from banging the gun around. It's the strangest thing.

-Didn't say I worked on it, I just had it in as part of a trade deal I was playing the third party for. I oiled it lightly, aired it up, dry fired it, threw a few balls out the back door to make sure the velocity was in the ballpark, and that was about it.

No idea about the leak. Best guess, the body may have started out similar to an Illustrator, which of course had a back-bottle, and this a small gas port running down the lower corner of the body. Might be that the manufacturer initially had the bodies machined that way, but saw the trends moving toward bottomline mounts, and switched halfway along.

That's 100% guess, of course, but the only reason I can think of for a stacked-tube to have an air leak of any kind at any point behind the valve.

Bringing this back up for the moment: Equalizer, any chance I could get a copy of that doc in something like a TXT or PDF? I couldn't open the Google one.

Also, a couple new additions I'll post here for notekeeping:

The Phoenix, which had a quarter-turn lever arrangement, which locked into a groove in the barrel.

The Nelson Challenger- a molded plastic sleeve with threads, over a brass liner.

I've also managed to confirm that F1 Illustrator and BE Raptor threads are, for all intents and purposes, identical. (Many of you already knew that, but I'd never verified it for myself.)

And just a reminder for when I finally get around to updating the page: Ion and later-model Impulse threads are the same.

It would be cool to make an actual size shop poster with specs for all the threads you have.

Assuming shops exist I can’t imagine they wouldn’t want one. But I’d take one for my house.
