I accidentally left ramp on one time and destroyed someone and felt so bad after I only play 15 semi or uncapped semi.

5.5 semi only for anything recreational mixing with rentals. If you are playing a private game or only with other self-equipped players go nuts, but ramping in rec. walk on play is a great way to ensure that a lot of new players won't be coming back.

Mech or Pump in mixed company. I'd rather people have a good time more than my want to win. It's good enough to just get to go out and play.

Field owners like selling paint to hosers so I doubt that you will see many banning ramp...

It's a prolific issue at the field I frequent. There's a core group of regulars who bring 10 pods of paint onto the field and ramp (and often are shooting hot). The field is struggling and the regulars definitely shoot the most paint out of anyone else there (they sit in the back and don't make any moves while hosing the field down with paint) so I understand why the field allows it as the paint sales help pay the bills to some degree.

That said, I haven't seen the group of regulars grow over the 8+ years that I've been frequenting there. I see lots of players show up and then not ever come back again. It isn't fun playing your first time out and hearing the bunker getting hammered across the field at 300 fps (when the field speed limit is 280 fps) and the moment you get up the gumption to move getting blasted by 10-12 paintballs that leave major welts. Now some folks will say "grow, up - that's paintball and the way it's meant to be played" but I'd disagree. It discourages the sport growing and as other commenters have already said here, ultimately reduces the number of people playing the sport over time.

So in short, I don't like ramping in rec. If a player can't walk the trigger with their CS3 vs a rental, you need to work on your motor functions a bit.

Hence another reason why our sport is stuck in its perpetual limbo. Hard to get interest in it when there is a good chance your first experience is shooting rental gear with the absolute worst masks possible all the while getting blasted by the try-hards that have egos to feed. Gosh I love/hate this sport.

Paintball and videogames are becoming similar in this respect. The barrier to entry is cheap or free, meanwhile the whole infrastructure and business model would not be sustainable without a relatively small group of "whales" spending ridiculous money on completely optional purchases.

The players throwing money at the game for an advantage think they are "winning", meanwhile I think I win regardless of the outcome because I spend less of my $$$ on recreation.

The field we normally go to does not allow ramping on rec fields... I think that should be standard.

When I first got a 170r I was so excited I ramped all over the place.. then figured out I was being a dick...Now I am a one click one shot from now on...and pretty much just play with mech frame on my 180.

Thing is the new mechs are so fast, you can throw so much paint with a mech 180 its crazy...

I sold my Gmek because I could shoot it too fast very easily, so I'm definitely on the "no ramp" side of things.

Does all this also mean that you shouldn't use RT modes in recball?

I’m torn on the issue because you can use those modes and not be a D-bag. I think semi in rec because you are making that decision each and every pull.

For me I play to the environment with rec and enjoy playing down. I’m comfortable enough and experienced enough with a pump I don’t feel outgunned I actually prefer my open class pumps to all of my other setups.

But I don’t expect everyone to do that. I think Semi in rec / walk on play in most situations is how it should be. It really depends on the field and the people that play there. Some people are just D-bags and can be D-bags with anything they shoot.

You can over shoot with a pump but you are actively making the decision to do so. I feel it’s much easier for newer electro players to accidentally over shoot in the heat of the moment when ramp sets drop 3 shots on a pull. When I see seasoned players clubbing rental players at the field I make sure I’m on the other side and hunt them.

It comes down to this be respectful to the game and other players. Paintball is more fun that way for everyone.

My field is usually 50-50 to 75-50, rentals to experienced players. Hunting experienced players is one of my favorite things as well. Pick the rental heavy team and move around the field looking to take out the experienced players.

Ramping is fine if you're only playing with other rampers. Not in mixed walkon games. The field I go to does a decent job at making sure no one is ramping, but they really need to enforce all electros to cap at something like 10 or less.

I think tank and halopper mechanical the most, followed closely by open class pump, but even with these cool valves for Emeks you can get up there in ROF. I think a stock Emek (aside from good barrel, hopper, tank) is the happiest medium to not shoot too fast but also have a very nice shot quality, be able to go up against the fast shooting dweebs, and fairness with the mixed crowd, outside of playing pump.
