The only “ramping” I’ve ever done in paintball is taking the Castle. I’ve actually never shot an electro in a game.

Chuck E Ducky TBH not one specific thing and it’s not that I’m anti- battery or anything like that/ number one is probably that I hate double triggers and center feeds. That feeds into the fact that everything I own is at least 25 years old and I prefer to play with my own toys. Lastly I find I enjoy shooting stuff that gives me “haptic feedback “ lol. Also I guess I rip thru enough paint when I out a pod pack on, regardless of what I’m shooting. I’ve only felt under gunned a handful of times and it was always at big games when I wish I could shoot a crowd easier but I could probably count those times on one hand.

I was just curious. I enjoy both for various reasons. In rec almost exclusively shoot pump. I’m surprised you never even gave it a try. It can be a ton of fun with the right people.

ramping is why I don't bother stepping onto the airball fields at my local fields, everyone on those fields is playing like a NXL superstar, its "walk on" but by walking on youre agreeing to play NXL ball.. i will say though, the electro's don't play the other fields very often, and usually there's enough of each group to swap fields, so they tend to not mix very much.. self equipped players who don't want to practice for the text tournament like myself are few and far between

my electros are non-bouncy uncapped semi, and shoot like it.. yet somehow they think that puts them at a disadvantage, and I don't want to listen to them whine.. I refuse to set anything for ramping and I think MAYBE two of mine have a new enough board to go down to 10.5 in the first place

so most of the time I'm playing pump so the walk-ons won't be scared of me. once in awhile I'll grab a mech semi. the electos only ever come out at the big games anymore,

Pump on the Xball field is so much fun! It’s a shame not a lot of players get to experience it. We did a few 30 v 30 games Stock Class on 10 man Pipes field at Slims Stock Class game and that was an epic good time!

I did end up grabbing a 180R to mix in with the speedball crowd earlier this year. The streetball events Wanna-Play have been a ton of fun - highly recommended if tournament style ball is your thing. I typically use my mechs or pumps when mixing in with rentals. Although, there was one instance this year where ramping with an electro was justified (kinda). Sadly, the only walk-ons that day were rampant cheaters who would constantly wipe hits. The refs did their best, but it was so bad that their only advice (short of kicking them all out and the entire walk-on crowd there that day with them) was to walk them off the field. I was nice at first and had the 180 set to only 5.5 BPS, but that changed as the day progressed and the cheating got worse. After taking the ref's advice, they eventually got the point and I was able to switch it back up to pump again. Play honorably or get the hose.

Im glad to see paintball hasn't changed much in 10+ years lol.

The height of my play was 06-07, and the angel I had didnt ramp, I just had fast fingers. Ill never forget being accused of "full auto" by the rental crowd...course I got that with the mag I had then too 😅.

I did finally get a new board fornthe angel that ramped, but it only ever got turned on 1 time in a rec game. I was reffing, and the kid whos birthday it was was getting bullied by the turd bags he had invited. I put it in a ramp mode, handed him two pods of pain, and watched the little turds he played with poopoo on themselves. Gotta admit, the maniacal laughter from the 11yo locking the whole field up with my g7 is a very fond memory. I know his mom was ready to take the whole ref crew home after that game, cause he came out 10ft tall and armor plated!

I've never been a good player, I'm fat and can't slide well, but even I had some success in the "how fast CAN I cheat it" ramping era playing with a pump on an airball field. You just had to stay alive and make them dump their pack.

I've been watching a lot of videos of rec games recently and it seems like a lot of electro guys are using ramping during normal walk-on games with mixed equipment owners and rentals. I wouldn't think much of this except for in the videos a lot of the new players/rentals are catching a lot of bonus balls and are clearly not having a great time with it. In my head, if you're self-equipped and experienced, there doesn't really seem to be a need to use ramping in a rec situation. Anyone with a little trigger experience should be able to use semi auto to fight it out with experienced players and easily dial it back for rentals. I am an unabashed limited paint player, so maybe this is just out of my realm?

Curious to other perspectives. I know this can be a spicy topic so let's keep it friendly please.
Walkable double finger triggers, full auto, burst, ramping, all do the same thing: they increase the ROF. As to whether it should be in Recball depends on the recball. If the hosting field is only renting single finger trigger semi guns, then the field should not allow any fire modes, and limit walking when possible. Even walking trigger speeds are going to have multiple balls in the air before the first one hits.

Fields are insured based on the fire modes allowed. If the field is stating semi auto only in the safety brief, that's because it's required by insurance.

For a couple years, I regularly played at a field that allowed any and all fire modes. They rented Tippman A-5s with RTs, and taught the renters how to use the RT. Tons of fun was had. A key difference was that they didn't run Birthday events and they advertised to college age kids, and service members. They did quite a few things different but, all that had to change when Cossio became their insurance provider (I don't know who their previous was but, they were definitely insured).
