I'm also partial to the newer hoseless designs found in the latest models. No more having to deal with thread locker or Teflon tape. No more leaking air fixtures. No more blown or leaking macroline. Just keep the seals properly greased and go play.

It looks like I'm in the minority, but personally feel the Gmek has the most soul of any of the modern mechs. If you're planning on playing mechanical tournaments, the CVOs were the fastest for a while, but that's really all they had going for them (welcome back speed wars), and the Deadlywind trigger valves for the Emek & M170R can get you just as fast of a trigger on a better platform.
For me, the main reason for playing pump or mechanical is to handicap myself a bit when playing in non-tournament formats and to save some paint. I've owned a few of them, but the Gmek has held a permanent spot in my gear bag since picking it up.

I love my Emek. Sold my M170R because I liked the Emek better. It’s cheap, always works, efficient, shoots super brittle paint with ease, and it rips! My entire mech team went to PE after shooting them. We are all running the Emek or the M170R. The Efficiency is the main reason I switched from classic cockers its a big advantage especially if you plan on using it in mech events. I ended up selling all my cockers.
I have shot them all people say buy an Emek for a reason. If you want fancy M170R is more cosmetically appealing. I like the feel of the CVO but the PE offerings are more reliable and more efficient. With the DW valve they are faster to if thats what you want.

I have an enmey now can't stand the trigger setup, leaks to much and I short stroke the shit out of it all the time, that's my main concern with these new mechs is can you short stroke them, from what iv seen the PE guns don't at all

Then like most around here and 100% of the Reddit folks will say, get yo'self an Emek.

I know a lot of people here joke about the cult of Emek, but from my experience, it's warranted praise. Yeah, the guns aren't the prettiest things and yeah, they're made of plastic, but their performance for the price really can't be argued with.
I had my neighbor over the other day since he knows I have a pretty decent collection of markers. He was looking for recommendations for his son and so I let him fire a variety of options at some targets in the backyard. Even for someone who isn't a player himself, the Emek blew him away when compared to the others.

Trigger squeak is due to dirty valve piston Orings. They don’t stop working they make noise they need to be cleaned. I got a lot of miles on mine, a lot! Two grip screws push the brass pins out wipe it off grease it up. Slide it back together it will be good for another 100+ cases.

Shot my buddy's Emek for a game last time I was out. Seemed pretty good. My only complaints are the trigger felt a little squishy to me (I usually shoot sear trippers though) & I don't care for the foregrip/trig frame distance. Other than those, I see why people like them so much. The overall size was good, it shot well, and you can't beat the price/performance ratio for a brand new paintgun.

But still, with a Bang Switch, it was easy for me to rip on it, and the fat trigger shoe it came with us quite comfortable. I only sold it because I plan on picking up another PE mech.

What would a older gmek even go for, I would hope not the $500 like they want for m170r's and cvo's but I know those are more expensive, Its between that and I guess the emek cause of price, I can always upgrade it later or take a file or dremel to it and smooth it out and make it look a little better, can you change the grips and the fore grip on the emek

I sold mine stock, with the Gtek frame, for $350 about a month ago. An upgraded one would probably cost a bit over $400 depending.

If you do pick up a Gmek, definitely get a Bang Switch. I've heard on the pivot triggers that the different isn't too noticable, but on that slider, I definitely noticed a positive difference in the pull.

There's a Master Blaster's Gtek on eBay right now going for $311 with both frames. Ends in ~35mins.
$350 with both frames is typically what I see. They pop up once in a while on here. Maybe post a WTB ad?

You can’t change the front grip without cutting the old one off. It’s been done but the front grip is part of the frame. It locks into the body then gets this lil rubber bumper that sandwiches between the valve and body for the internal air delivery. I think SSC chopped the front grip off and added something similar to what they put on AutoMags. But it’s not going to happen without custom work.

Emek has an all plastic front grip. No rubber on it. Honestly the only thing thats nicer on the M170R is that front grip and there is a lil finger grove you hand sits in on the rear grip. For what I'm using it for I like the Emek because I don't have to worry about scratching it and beating it up in the woods. I have already got my moneys without of it.

I've been shooting automags of one form or another for over 20 years. I've competed in the ICC twice with a classic mag and never felt outgunned. However....
I finally broke down and bought a M170R (I have a SP allergy like others here). I have mixed feelings about it. It is without question superior to old school mechs in every way. The trigger is extremely adjustable so tune it to your taste. It's consistent, easy on paint, and fairly efficient. It does have an extremely noticeable sound signature when you dry fire. And the grip is a bit wide front to back.
What I really don't like is it's making me not want to shoot anything else. Of course YMMV

I'll add my own Emek bandwagon story to the mix. I just bought one a month ago, after having owned a Gmek briefly in the past, and got the chance to use it for a few games this past Saturday. I never took to the slide trigger on the Gmek, but the Emek's felt much more my style. I usually use old powerfeed Automags as my primaries, so running around with the super light, centerfeed Emek was really crazy. The stock trigger is great, and the marker handles and shoots so well that it really lets you play to your best ability without getting fatigued. I love my heavy old RT Classics, but you really can't use them as effectively with the same ease as the Emek. Part of the reason I use Automags is nostalgia, love for the design and company, and because I like playing with a bit of a handicap against electros. The Emek is like removing any of the handicap while still being mech, and also being less finicky than the older markers to boot. Now I get the hype!
