Home Made MacDev Clone GTi Grips

Just finished making a pair of grips for a 2013 MacDev Clone GTi. The originals had become brittle and started crumbling so with no factory grips available I decided to make my own.

I scanned in one of original grips and created a vector file to cut out a new pair from 4mm timber on a laser cutter. After a bit of hand finishing and a coat of lacquer I tried them out but they looked a little plain. So I grabbed a Star Wars “Clone Trooper” logo off the web, scaled it down and created a vector file to laser engrave onto some contrasting timber. I then cut out the logo and a corresponding hole in each grip using the laser before gluing them in. The final touch was cutting out a screen window in acrylic on the bandsaw and gluing it into the left hand grip.

All in all I thought they came out way better than expected.

Good work. I am going to try doing some wood grips too. Thinking I may try the colored wood stains they have now. Be cool to have some purple, green and blue ones.
