They redesigned the bolt system, and the web page says there are several other “new” things.

On the bright side, the Geo4 will be even more affordable and that is an amazing tournament gun

It's a nicely revised/tweaked IV Core, just so folks don't think this is some "all new" drive.

Yep. I like my 3.5 just fine for now. The 4 and now R5 aren’t as cool looking anyway.

Yeah the eye covers on the 3s are cool. Does the lower leg do anything?

It hides the eye wires running from the frame...

Geo 4/CSR is peak "old Geo", no question about it. The R5 is a sweet modernized package.

    What did I miss?

Dose it come in red and black so I can lust over owning one?

If you can't see any difference here, you must be actively trying to ignore it. It's not an insubstantial change. I'm actually really surprised by the change they made here; that's a lot of volume to take out of the bolt guide. I would have assumed that would increase turbulence. Obviously Jack knows more than me though. Also the new solenoid location will probably slow the bolt speed down a bit.

And the DSR-esque bolt port profile, and the revised valve dynamics (no nose, no longer interacting with the bolt on the rearward stroke, larger sensing orifice, higher-rate spring)....

Magmoormaster, I'm curious on your thoughts about the solenoid location and its impact on bolt speed.

imped4now The CS1 and Geo4 had the noid right underneath the bolt sail, so there would be little to no delay between the noid activating and the bolt moving. Because the noid is further back on this new model, back behind the trigger, there's a longer flow path from the noid to the bolt. It'll be pretty subtle, if anything really, but theoretically that longer flow path will create a longer delay between the noid activation and the bolt moving. The velocity of the bolt moving forward probably won't change, assuming input pressure remains the same.

As someone who doesn't even currently own an electronic gun and almost certainly won't buy an R5, I think it's cool that Eclipse continues to put effort into developing/refining the Geo platform. The Gamma Core (and it's derivatives) are so good that even other companies are using it, but abandoning other designs makes the electronic marker market even more boring.

I agree. All of these people bitching about *having choices* are freaking ridiculous. When this industry finally dies, they'll wonder why.

We have constructive bitching here, and it's quite nice. Fatalist mentality is better suited for pbn..

If I had the funds, and time, and desire (or need) for one of these I'd jump on it. Maybe in 5+ years.

          I think it’s neat.

If I played more and didn’t already have a huge pile of markers I might pick one up 🤣
