I don't wanna throw the entire industry out with the bath water, but something about paintball seems to attract some of the worst people out there.

Years back CanadianPaintball got busted smuggling both drugs and guns, and then crazier than that was a local shop and team owner and his wife getting busted for making porn with his dogs.

It's a damn shame to hear this. Hope he gets what he deserves.

I just realized something...this really is the end of the Dye brand name for sure. Not the products but the name.

I got something in the mail from Dye today. Just now. After this thread was started. It doesn't matter what it is, I ordered it a week ago, everyone has something from Dye. Go grab something from Dye and think about this:

The dude is hella pedo with no tact. His handle is Youngblood. He was at one time, himself, young blood, a star, but now he will only be thought of as someone who loves young blood way too much.

Its not a Jimmy Saville situation, he kept it in the family like so many do. So this isn't so much about him being a gross POS at large but rather him being a gross POS to mostly one person...who's basically the exact same age as the company...a company that is in on the exploitation...and who's mother was as much of the company as Dave. This kid's suffering is directly linked to the company...not just in the lawsuit but in anyone's mind when they see the Dye logo. Dave Youngblood Enterprise. His enterprise of exploiting young blood. Seriously, go LOOK at the "y" in the Dye logo right now and tell me you want in on more of that.

Likely the resources. the capital, many of the people, etc will continue to exist but they will rebrand. They have to. They have pretty much have "We rape kids" in their friggn name.

It's an evil, disgusting mess. I know I won't be keeping any Dye products.

Most people don't know what "Dye" stands for though. Before I looked into the company history, I thought it was just because they make paintball stuff, and "paint" and "dye" are both vaguely related to colors.

As for rebranding, they could just bring back the Proto name. I thought that was a cooler name/logo anyway.

Yeah I think it took me about 23 years from when I started playing until I found out it was actually an acronym.

Feel bad for the innocent people at Dye. You never want to get that call.

This is the first I’ve heard , admittedly I have only recently returned to the game after many years away .
I knew Dave Youngblood , I mean not personally but in the sport playing in competitions and interacting with him as I was in the same crowd of players and Industry people in SoCal back in the early 90’s
Is there an article on this ?

Just a heads up, I'm seeing reports on reddit that the case is being thrown out by the complainant. Either it's being settled out of court or it's bogus.

I have seen a couple of Reddit comments to that effect, but have found nothing in the docket entries in the case to corroborate it. The closest I have found was a much earlier entry in which the plaintiff voluntarily dismissed some corporate entity called DNR Limited as a defendant.

I guess will find out as the trial continues , the witnesses and evidence will ultimately determine the outcome

If you've been around since the 90's it's nothing new... There were many rumors floating around about Dave. Including a photo of him in a lady porno mag.

HE always was very "look at me" almost to a creepy point.

As for the drug smuggling that's a new one, guy must be thinking of HK.... That's a whole other thing though.

The mag allegations I had heard many years ago , but back then to be fair those sort of things were said of others . Admittedly now it makes me wonder about those others also .
To be clear I am not defending Dave in any way , as I stated I only knew the guy professionally in the sport back then .
At the same time I’m being a little cautious in regards to this situation as many others in the past in various sports and situations . The allegations themselves seem very compelling , the veracity of the witnesses and the evidence will tell the truth ultimately in court .

I do remember that Bud Orr said something about team Iron Men being known for less then honorable performance in competitive matches before he sponsored them , but supposedly they cleaned up their act after that .

                I
In regards to DYE products themselves , I was never really all that impressed with any of their offerings .
                I don’t believe I ever bought a single one .

I remember what Lou “ Gramps “ Grubbs of Gramps and Grizzlies taught me about very well honed brass barrels , superior to most nonsense that a lot of companies sell , except perhaps in the weight category

Feels like that should have much bigger implications for Dye's government contracts if true.

Let me clarify. I am in no way defending anyone that is actually perpetrating those horrible acts. I would very much prefer if these people were sentenced to jail for life. However, people do actually fabricate even this kind of serious allegations, improbable as it may sound.

From personal experience - a disgruntled female co-worker wanted to get me fired from the Swedish Armed Forces, and made up a whole slew of accusations, including sexual misconduct. The inquiry eventually cleared me of every single allegation without a shadow of a doubt - partly because when she felt wind in her sails, she began to accuse several other people and the whole scam fell to pieces.

Had she succeeded I would have been banned from any further employment at the Swedish Armed forces, branded as a sexual predator by society, and most probably sentenced to jail time. To add insult to injury, no action whatsoever was taken against my co-worker. Women are pretty much untouchable in the Swedish Armed Forces, so she could carry on like nothing ever happened.

So to sum it up - I do not defend any sexual predatory conduct whatsoever. I do know for a fact that sick people actually make up allegations like this for their own potential benefit, with no regard for the one being accused.

I fully understand your reaction to my initial post though, since I fully agree that there is nothing whatsoever to defend about sexual crime. So I don't feel personally attacked by you in any way.

Sorry to hear that , it’s unfortunate your experience was not the only one of its kind .
There was a case here in the U.S. back in the 80’s I remember it involved allegations against a daycare center and abuse . After seven years no convictions were made and evidence regarding coercion of the child witnesses surfaced .
As to what actually happened it’s debatable , but it looked to be largely false accusations that ruined the lives of a number of falsely accused people .

-It's worth noting that the suit was his schtick from pretty much day one. There's an early issue of Paint Check magazine, that had the story behind it- summarized, a friend had been out at a party the night before (I'm assuming a Friday night, it's been a while since I read the article) and after waking up in the morning, had come straight to the field- still wearing the apparently-rented grey suit. As it had been kind of thrashed by the party- spilled drinks, tears, some cigarette burns, etc. he just took it off to change into his PB gear (cammies back then, natch- this would have been '86-'88 as I recall- and probably an '89 issue of PC) and then just threw the suit away.

Dave, who was 14 or 15 at the time grabbed it- or asked if he could have it, etc.- and wore it the rest of the day. It was unusual- the normal wear, of course, was surplus BDU camo, so somebody playing in a gray suit stood out.

Combined with the fact that Dave was a pretty good player at the time, that got him some attention. One thing led to another, and it became his signature. A grey or silver suit, a heavily customized silver gun, and the playing chops to back it up.

Arguably that's how Dave got to where he is. That fame/notoriety (especially in a SoCal area where a lot of the famous names came from) got him spots on big-name teams, contacts with industry insiders, sponsorships, magazine covers, and so on.

Can't say either way of the allegations, and won't even try. But it can be argued, to a degree, that, if they're even somewhat true, it's kind of the "child actor" syndrome. He's been "famous"- even if only in our little industry- since he was a teenager, and he's been a millionaire probably since around the turn of the century. And not everybody can handle that kind of thing. (Look at Jared from 'Subway'- he was just some schmuck, Subway made him a millionaire, and at some point he decided he was rich enough to... 'indulge himself'.)
