Good question. I suppose we'll need to find out. Although, I have a velocity adjuster mod in mine. I guess I'd have to put the old parts back in or something if I had to send it in.

Update: News sources are saying that you'll need to send it in for a replacement.

Is this the same situation as the BT SA-17 where dumbf###s were opening the changer with a fully charged cartridge? Or is it popping out on it's own?

I'm not sure, but I'd think that's unlikely considering how hard it is to unscrew the cap when it's under pressure.

EDIT: The following information isn't 100% correct. See post #7 for more information.

My guess is that it has something to do with the black steel tube that acts as the cartridge housing, and is pressurized, coming unthreaded from the aluminum upper valve. This is a not unheard of problem that happened with the early valves that just used two little dimples to prevent the tube from unthreading. If you try removing the cap with a cartridge that still has significant pressure, you can easily pop those dimples out, and end up unthreading the steel tube from the aluminum upper valve. Over time you could even unthread it enough that it finally breaks free and rockets into your hand when piercing a new cartridge.

There is information out there (my Google-fu is weak right now, and I can't seem to find it again) on how people were fixing this with screws to prevent it from unthreading. It happened to our friend, Tyler/Fat Rambo, and we just red loctited the tube back in place. Umarex has known this was a problem for a while, as they released a new valve a while back with a much larger crimped area. It's a design flaw, but chances are that if you don't do something stupid, it will never happen to you.

Apparently it's actually the later crimped valves that are failing. From what it sounds like, in the pursuit of cheapness I'm sure, is the later ones aren't even threaded on, just crimped on. Over time the pressure causes the crimps to fail and turns the black steel tube into a rocket.

COB It looks like you'd better check the tubes on your fleet of TR50s.

This is why there was a safety talk before the game. The original steel tube was threaded and loctite in place. Gen 2 steel tube was pressed, loctite and crimped. Gen 3 is back to Gen 1 threaded, loctitie and dimpled.
If you over tighten the cap with the Allen wrench, or try to remove the cap under pressure, you will break the seal of the loctite and the crimp. The cylinder will leak at best and blow completely off the bottom of the marker at worst. We had this happen at the field. I am surprised at how long it has taken for the recall to be issued.

It seems that not all markers in the listed models are affected. I contacted Umarex about my model 2292112 and they responded that my particular serial number was unaffected.
