Well, there's at least a button to remove the cover that goes over the breach so that looks tooless. .

The feeder though, looks like it's basically a cyclone so no luck on something better there

I like this guys review. Its largely subjective but the one thing he points out is having to "prime" the loading system

Other than that, i can see myself using this for about a dozen projects off the top of my head

Few other take aways, regulators don't need to be this complicated

Either, two screws drop the loader off of the back of the marker and then removing the bolt is tooless from there

        Or

Someone forgot the rest of the instructions on how to get the bolt out

I've never played with mine, but I have shot it. It's got to be one of the worst trigger pulls I've ever experienced.
            I can haz feedback?

When did you get it? I'm still confused about that. Have these actually been out for years and just none of us have noticed or seen them on the field?

Man for $200 even I'm tempted a little bit, and I always thought these were dumb as hell. Looks like ANS still has the Stryker MP1 available for the same price, which is kinda cool.

October 2022. Mine is a "Rental" (yellow grips) version though. I'm not sure when the "Retail" (black grips) version was released.

I did a little YouTube research and it seems like the consensus is the ergos/weight distribution are weird, you have prime the feeding by wasting 10-15 shots before it starts to cycle, and I imagine malfunctions would be hard to clear. I know there's supposed be a nicer Empire version with some bells and whistles

Yeah that's the dfender, it's also around $800 and an e marker. Shares the same bullpup format but that's about all

yea. the Dfendr is basically a halo hopper and an Axe shoved together. It works, but it can be finicky if it's not kept clean. There's an engeriing group making better parts for it now, which should help make it less finicky. they're making aftermarket parts for all sots of paintball tings, actually. some things that you can't even get through the manufacturer anymore.

did they used to make stuff for the Dfender ? I just went through the whole paintball section and didn't see anything for the Dfender. Was looking because a friend of mine could use a few parts. He managed to lose his eye covers for one

Did notice they have an adjustable tank regulator that looks like it's in the works though

It's weird this hasn't caught on in the mech world.
It came out during covid at double the price and barely mattered

this is what happens when one sees (yes niche , pricey, but very well built) dfender and says "how can we make it cheaper not better"

look the dfender (my friend had one for his wife) is an AMAZING WELL BUILT and balanced (if you want a smooth sight line with loader as stock/bullpup type)
all the use we put it though it never failed us.

this is by all now available an overcomplicated , bad ergonomic, taking a normally reliable loader system (worked great for a5/x7 with after market parts for more durability, just uses more air) and go cheap on that.

i said this before when first came out and will (with more info now out) say it again
it is a badly made item that all it now tries for its "cheap"

on that note for $200 you can get a nice used automag level 7, add a 30 revy and be about same (if not cheaper price) that is a tank.

sadly this is what happens when tippman (who was known for guns that were tanks in basic models and well built in more advanced) is bought out

The main problem with the Dfender is it's too expensive, so that would be a good goal anyway

Worked great with aftermarket parts? So it didn't work great with stock parts? How is that then also "reliable"? You had to fix it

The cyclone has never been good though, I'd call it "adequate" at best. The vast majority of aftermarket parts for it are snake oil and a lot even harmful to it's performance

I'm confused how you can make all these judgements and statements about it and it's build quality when it looks like you have never even held one. I suspect you would have said so by now if you had. This whole thing just looks like you are really biased towards the Dfender and downplaying something that is a full quarter of the price for having a build quality that you suspect is, what, 1/4 as costly to produce?

Remember the original ion was $189, with electronics and everything. This is now 20 years later with inflation and everything $200, a design that really doesn't have a blueprint. Regardless of how well it's made or works, that alone is pretty impressive

on that note for $200 you can get a nice used automag level 7, add a 30 revy and be about same (if not cheaper price) that is a tank.
Key word there is used. A lot of new players don't want something used not to mention a product that hasn't been produced in what, 20 years? I'm not positive when the air valves went out of production but I'd bet that's not far off. And I wouldn't blame them either. Name me another new non blowback setup with a hopper that's in the same price range.

Got news for you on that one. Tippmann changed hands around 04/05. Then their sears started wearing down faster, power tubes were breaking more often and their "more advanced" model that was released right around there was the A5. The "tippmanns are tanks" idea was largely because of things that happened before the 04/05 change of hands it just stuck with the company even though they didn't really live up to it any longer.

If you are talking more recently then I'm imagining the more advanced model is probably the phenom and crossover. The flex valve in general is a fairly poor copy of the automag valve train and most of those are dying out because the on/off pin is not up to the task long term. They bend and tippmann did not feel the need to continue producing them.
