I don’t get why everyone is so upset. If you’re the sort of hapless dipstick who buys into the idea that gun technology matters enough to buy a new gun every time they come out this makes perfect sense.

New guns are cool. Guns that are 30 years old are cool. Guns that are three years old are basically trash.

Why would anyone OWN a Mercedes S class? It’s outdated before its paid off. A lease is way better. Same situation.

The terms could be totally predatory but my hunch is that they are aiming high not low. Me, being low, I’m sure I wouldn’t like what this actually costs but for annual gun upgrade people it’s a way to avoid the PITA of selling and actually seeing the heartbreak of depreciation.

It's just another symptom of the financial state of things, without delving into politics. Cell phone companies have been pushing leases for years now; it's why I finally started buying them unlocked from the manufacturer after Sprint got rid of every other option. Companies want us on subscriptions and leases, making regular payments. It's no surprise to me that the Gardners are the first to try it in paintball.

What a wonderful world we live in where you can drive your 10-year loaned car from your 50-year mortgaged house to take your leased paintball gun to the field with directions on your leased cell phone.

Leases and rentals turn you into an investment commodity for the company in perpetuity. Don't fall for the grift. Ownership is freedom; get some.

100% agree. One trend I find ominous is the move towards subscriptions for features on cars. I completely refuse to buy a vehicle where I have to pay monthly for heated seats or something.

I agree with that. Subscriptions should be justified with an ongoing expense. Heated seats, where you've already paid for the hardware--that's just plain extortion. I can -maybe- see a difference for software like FSD supported with ongoing development and updates, but I'd still give my business to a company where I could pay once.

People tight on funds shouldn’t be signing up for stuff like this. For this scheme to make sense this will certainly be three digits per month. These are $1600 guns, right? I make OK money but I’ve never purchased a $1600 gun. If money is any object then that’s…a stupid waste of money. I’m a space commie for sure but I do sorta know how money works.

The deal also requires than the person be a tournament paintball player which is a thing that in itself has destroyed countless families thanks to dad blowing the money for Christmas presents on paint he never even hit anyone with.

So true, but these types of purchases tend to be from the heart in the "want" category and don't always make it up the brain's "need" criteria. And that is why this sort of thing is so damn predatory to those who can least afford it.

We are talking about Smart Parts here. The fine print says you must have a PBLI number and be an active tourney player. You owe them money and they dont get it.....I could totally see them freezing you out of the tourney until they get their money. Think of the pressure this would put on the teams that have really talented but broke players. I could totally see them do this.

Paintball and heroin have pretty much identical models. Get them hooked, keep them hooked. Even if they owe you big you keep supplying them as long as they are still spending every penny they have on the habit. If you cut them loose they just get some other habit and you never get money again.

This is what I keep coming back to. If you have a credit card there really is no difference between this lease program and just buying it with a card but if you are in a position where the card doesn't have enough room or you can't get a credit card then this is really only for people who will be taken advantage of anyway.

That and I'm sure the Gardner Brothers will absolutely give you well above market value on last year's model when you trade it in. I'm assuming since you did the lease program and not buying it you don't have the option of selling it though so you are stuck
