Dave would probably have a heart attack if somebody told him they were leasing a paintball marker.

Im genuinely curious how many people would actually be willing to do this.

Sell off your most expensive markers first, then with your monthly savings after expenses, create a savings account to accumulate your new markers funds. Then cancel all your credit cards and live off rice and beans for exactly 14 months. Then buy a new house.

So does this mean new luxes will have title papers? Can I 'roll back' the shot counter? Who pays for repairs?

Wow but as someone that is a recovering high end gun whore... The market tanks hard on new releases so why keep anything longer.

Good point, one year later this $1600 will be $800 on the used market.

Maybe we should start an MCB lease program for vintage markers:

“Have you always wanted to shoot an AKA Viking, but never got the chance? Contact member XYZ for a low low $100 a month lease of this beautiful 2004 Viking with a stunning gloss finish….”

I would rent a viking for a month for 100.
After all the bst hassle and shipping, this is probably cheaper for gunwhores.

It's just another symptom of the financial state of things, without delving into politics. Cell phone companies have been pushing leases for years now; it's why I finally started buying them unlocked from the manufacturer after Sprint got rid of every other option. Companies want us on subscriptions and leases, making regular payments. It's no surprise to me that the Gardners are the first to try it in paintball.

What a wonderful world we live in where you can drive your 10-year loaned car from your 50-year mortgaged house to take your leased paintball gun to the field with directions on your leased cell phone.

Leases and rentals turn you into an investment commodity for the company in perpetuity. Don't fall for the grift. Ownership is freedom; get some.

100% agree. One trend I find ominous is the move towards subscriptions for features on cars. I completely refuse to buy a vehicle where I have to pay monthly for heated seats or something.

I agree with that. Subscriptions should be justified with an ongoing expense. Heated seats, where you've already paid for the hardware--that's just plain extortion. I can -maybe- see a difference for software like FSD supported with ongoing development and updates, but I'd still give my business to a company where I could pay once.

Another new low for the Gardners. And requiring pre-authorization on specifically debit cards means they'll auto-draft straight from your bank for 11 straight months. And leasing is only considered an option for people who are already tight on funds, so this is extra predatory.

I bet they throw money at someone associated with PBLI and have your player number suspended so you cant play in tourneys while you still posses the marker they want back. Or something like that.

Luxe better have an amazing R&D program. Every year the newest marker has to outshine the last by far or the program falls apart.

This is what I keep coming back to. If you have a credit card there really is no difference between this lease program and just buying it with a card but if you are in a position where the card doesn't have enough room or you can't get a credit card then this is really only for people who will be taken advantage of anyway.

That and I'm sure the Gardner Brothers will absolutely give you well above market value on last year's model when you trade it in. I'm assuming since you did the lease program and not buying it you don't have the option of selling it though so you are stuck

How does the now famous Klaus Schwab quote
go? "You'll own nothing and be happy.”

This is yet more late stage capitalism / neo marxism, in my view. Not happy about this trend. People should be able to afford things, and then sell them whenever they feel like it. Not this trend of an “affordability crisis” where people are forced to lease and rent because they’re priced out.

To be fair, this DLX lease pilot program seems like a nothing burger. It says it’s catered towards “tournament players”.

Eligibility for this program is determined entirely at the sole discretion of DLX. Participants must have a current PBLI number and play tournament paintball.
So it’s a pilot program for a few people.

Generally speaking though, leasing import vehicles makes sense. Unless you’re a mechanic, it’s obviously a very poor financial decision to drive a European car out of warranty.

                  Leasing commercial property or commercial
                  vehicles also makes sense.

So it’s not all black and white. There are instances where it makes sense.

But people are being priced out of home ownership, for instance. It’s never been more difficult for hard working people, including college graduates to attain home ownership. Home ownership, as opposed to renting, even when you factor maintenance costs, will always be an inter generational investment. The problem is that increasingly people can’t afford to make that investment. It’s much more difficult than it was for our boomer parents.

But “Rent to own” has been around for a while in many diff industries. It’s especially catching on in the gaming PC space — for obvious reasons. Video card prices are incredibly high. Now memory and storage costs are skyrocketing as well due to shortages caused by AI. And of course — you have advancements in technology constantly…

That said, renting/ leasing is much more expensive in the long run. And in the end — it’s only one more way that corporations are trying to maximize profits.

IMO, it makes sense if you are a person of means — and you are paying for the convenience — and to have the newest products. To put it bluntly: it caters to the rich. It’s like the market for import car leases. But it doesn’t make sense to the average person.

Look at used car prices. Based on that alone: people driving their Toyotas and Hyundais were better off owning versus leasing.

The biggest problem is rampant inflation, stagnant wages, and the so called “affordability crisis” is forcing poor people to stay poor. As the saying goes “being poor is expensive.”

Yeah, I'll do most work myself, but there are things that I'll leave to others because of time/lack of desire/motivation.

I will say this, if a friend pulls into your driveway with his Ecoboost 3.5L V6 F-150, and wants your help changing out the coolant lines for the turbos, make up an excuse to get out of it. It should only take a couple of hours he said...

My 2008 GTS Cayenne is one of the few exceptions. It has 280k miles and still runs like new. Although it’s more VW than Porsche. Like a VW Tiguan on ‘roids. I’ve had it since 2010, bought it with 16k mi.

But I have many horror stories. The biggest is probably my buddy that bought a 2013 Maserati Gran Turismo with 60k mi and had the transmission completely crap out on him after only a couple of months of daily driving. Friendly reminder: the GT has the Ferrari V8 and transmission. I believe he paid 27k, the repair was about 20-22k and it’s not something anyone can do even if you do engine swaps yourself. It’s an absolutely beautiful car. But cost of ownership is stupid.

Similarly, I have many other horror stories with mystery oil leaks causing performance issues in Audis. Air suspensions failing on recent-ish model Benzes with low-ish miles.

“will say this, if a friend pulls into your driveway with his Ecoboost 3.5L V6 F-150, and wants your help changing out the coolant lines for the turbos, make up an excuse to get out of it. It should only take a couple of hours he said...”
