    DIY Sheridan

This is just a diary of my Sheridan build. I'm making this shit up as I go. Building out of 12L14 because it machines nicely but also lets me weld. If I was any good at brazing, I would have gone with brass.

All I did today was cut to size and drill out 1 side of the body. That 12L14 machines like buttah!. Time spent: 3 hours

Very cool. I've been contemplating getting a piece of brass hex bar and having it bored to .680 to do a hex/bull barreled sheridan. Glad to see the hex idea wasnt only in my head!

I mean, it CAN be done but... If you know you are going to be welding, why wouldn't you use something that's actually meant to be welded.

That said, very interested in seeing where this goes.

I love 12L14, which of course was designed specifically to machine nicely. The only real drawback to it is that it'll rust if it's in the same room as a picture of water. Plan on having it nickel plated, inside and out, as a final step.

Do you tig, mig or stick weld?
You could weld the brass 😁

on the 12L14, be careful about our heat dissipation when welding it, it will warp pretty bad if you weld a bunch without pre-heating it.

drilled all the way through the lower tube and threaded the ends. i threaded the gas input side for standard paintball tanks, just to make it easy to swap between 12g and constant air. i dunno, just keeping my options open

i only needed 2 o-rings on the valve body, but i had space so i figured id throw a 3rd on there for fun. valve opening is 0.25". i dont know much about the science of valve sizes n shit so i just copied my splatmaster valve size. i can always make a different size valve in the future. all o-rings are standard tank o-rings

Looks like your machining is on point, but the typical choice of two is in case something sits a little funky, it still sits right (like a 3-legged stool). The third can create issues if there's a kink in the bore. If it leaks after you weld it, just pull the middle ring off and it should help.

i spent an hour freaking out because i didnt pay attention when i was designing and measuring the sketch. thankfully it was just a stupid on-paper mistake and i didnt have to change the parts.
            drilled a transfer port.
made the valve pin from S7 tool steel and polished it up all nice nice. it slides in the valve body wicked smooth.

stole a cup seal from my splatmaster kit. found a spring in a home depot kit. made a valve retainer/spacer. fired it up for the first time. great success

That valve stem looks almost exactly like the one that came in the PT Enforcer....I have a leftover one from when I had them you can have for experiment with if you like

There's something hysterical to me about the contrast of the beautiful work done by high tech tools and the captain caveman style mallet used for valve placement. I look forward to seeing this project develope, it's really something so far.
