On thing that has been interesting to me, is just how unreliable airsoft guns are. It seems like even high end guns aren't paintball reliable. My guess is it's some combo of small complex parts and and overall much less emphasis on preformance. It seems pretty normal that even well reviewed markers don't run well out the the box without replacing parts. I guess that's also part of the cheaper price points.

I don't think it'll feel scratch the paintball itch for me, but it might be a fun way to spend more time with buddies.
I desperately wanted to get an AAP01, I think they're so much cooler than Hi Capas. The problem for me was just how expensive the upgrade parts were. I went with the AW Custom Hi Capa just so it wouldn't be a long term money pit.

Re: reliability, that part is really interesting to me. Airsoft right now is what paintball was like in the 90s or early 2000s. There are a couple of rifles that seem to be really good OOTB, but they're all in the $300+ range. It's amazing how many reviews I've seen that are 5 star reviews, that say something to the effect of "works great, have this one seemingly big deal issue but other than that I love it." Obviously crap brands will always exist, but even the big names seem to have these issues. They really need to get that sorted out, along with getting HPA stuff down in price. A $500 HPA speedsoft gun with a decent ASA/grip (read my previous post) would crush the market.

Tried to go play last night but no one else showed up. Worked out though, I was able to work out some kinks. The hop up on my gun needed some serious adjustment, and my two extra mags I bought were missing some seals. Got that figured out, ran something like 500 rounds thru the gun. It's not super efficient, but otherwise it seems to work well. I'm not especially accurate with it yet, I need to learn to control the recoil. I was able to briefly hold a real upgraded hi capa, and frankly I did not notice any difference in quality. Very similar amount of play in the slide, and honestly the trigger in mine was nicer. Didn't shoot it though. Anyway, I'll play again on Tuesday, which is a discount day and usually more busy.

I had the same thought RE the AAP01. I love the ruger look and have seen some amazing builds, but it seems like by the time you've got the metal upper, hammer, and a few other bits and bobs it's almost cheaper to get the Nov and just go play. Similar to you, I couldn't care less about the milsim, in fact i find that the least appealing part. I just want to run around and shoot my friends.

I managed to get a few games in this evening. It went well, for the most part. I'm running one mag in each pocket right now, which honestly works just fine for me. But at one point I jumped to peek over a barrel and a mag bounced out of my pocket and broke. I was able to at least partially fix it, but it might have feeding issues now. Not sure yet. Also, the field I'm playing at is wildly unbalanced. The last game I played I was basically unable to move outside my spawn. It was really frustrating.

Beyond that though, it went well. The gun works great so far. Shoots fast (ROF) and accurate. I'm not great as indoor CQB style though. Too many weird angles people can pop out of. I got some ok gopro footage I'll try to edit and post up. Naturally I forgot to turn it on during the most interesting gameplay. :/ Go figure.

Were there any problems with playing on? If you listen anywhere, it seems to be the standard for air soft.

I didn't notice anyone else playing on. I might have a couple times, unintentionally. I wasn't especially padded up (just wore joggers and my paintball jersey) but there were a few hits I barely noticed. It wouldn't surprise me if I didn't feel some hits at all.
