Totally. Well, in lieu of a backup...I still have MP3s I made in 1997 despite having no computer hardware from 1997. I'm no web guy but it seems like the technology to fully backup websites has been around for longer than websites themselves have existed. If what's on the server is the literal only copy of something and the Wayback machine is your contingency plan...you don't need very smart hackers to ruin that plan.
So, What Happened?

Thanks for spending your precious time getting MCB back up! I didn't realize how often I was on here every day lurking around till it was gone. Blood pressure is slowly returning to where it should be...Comment

I'm just going to assume that you didn't actually read past the post you quoted.

I for one am thoroughly amazed at the sheer number of IT securtity experts who suddenly appeared after the hackDulce et decorum est pro comoedia moriOriginally posted by Phantom1313now you can loudly shout “I know things” and nobody can argue with you when you wildly wave your masters degree in front to themComment

I’m amazed at how you can dismiss anyone’s comments if they aren’t professionally engaged in the very thing they are talking about. I’d like to know what you do for a living so I can mock any post you make on another topic.
But seriously, are you saying that websites cannot be backed up? Was there a backup? What happened to it? Do I have to be an IT professional to ask these questions?
Since I don’t own a paintball field or company I guess I probably shouldn’t post at all here. I need to find the Dynamometer Test Technician forum....geez...I doubt that place is any fun...Comment

Does anyone ever respond positively to that phrase? Lol

It's less about expertise and more about the negative implications every time someone makes these comments; to wit, that Carter did something wrong in the administration of his own website, and moreover, that he owes anything at all to the people who use that site, for free if you like. He is the victim here, and second-guessing his administration of the site, after the fact, is completely unhelpful, even if it were technically correct.
And we don't know if those criticisms are technically correct, because he hasn't released the details of how he runs his security and back-ups, nor should he.
I watched this rigamarole of gripers on the Facebook page (including the word "liable" at one point), and a little here after the site came back up, and I've held my tongue figuring that saying anything about it would be like tossing water on a grease fire. I do apologise that when I finally did speak up it came out as a somewhat snarky comment with you in the crosshairs.Last edited by Axel; 07-25-2020, 04:13 PM.Dulce et decorum est pro comoedia moriOriginally posted by Phantom1313now you can loudly shout “I know things” and nobody can argue with you when you wildly wave your masters degree in front to themComment
