I wish the 288 GTO Evoluzione would have gotten the chance to race in Group B. -
William the Third I didn’t even know about the 288. Looks amazing. But it looks like the wider body is meant for grand touring.
I also learned of the 333 recently while looking at 1/32 slot cars -
The 288 GTO Evoluzione was a special variant (much like the F40 LM/Competizione, F50 GT (my all time favorite Ferrari), FXX, etc) of the 288 GTO that was built for Group B. There was going to be at least 20 built, as required by Group B, but only 6 ever got built, as Group B ended up being canceled. The Porsche 959 also suffered a similar fate, as it too was designed for Group B, but never got to race in Group B before it was canceled. The 288 GTO Evoluzione did go on to serve as the prototype for the F40 though.

Yeah that motor alone is like $30k I looked into getting one made when I had a Campagna T-Rex I snagged out of a a Texas repo. Ended up rebuilding the original ZX1200 that
was in it. That little V8 spinning up to street bike RPM’s it’s like a mini F1 engine. They have a Twin Turbo version now that puts out 785+ Hp out of the 300lb 3.0 and still spins 10,500rpm.

Chuck E Ducky you had a T-Rex? Nice! Nearly 20 years ago I ran into a group of them on the Blue Ridge Parkway while I was on my Aprilia RSV. I turned around, and chased them down. They were all from Ontario, down here doing a ride on the BRP, and other similar roads. We talked for a bit, and I warned them that they were about to enter the "commuter section" of the BRP that runs through Asheville, which is more heavily policed (pretty much every time I've been pulled over on the BRP, it's in this section). Nearly 30 years ago, young teenaged me sent a fax to a dealer who had a T-Rex listed in the duPont Registry (I loved looking through them, and dreaming, before the harshness of reality kicked me in the balls) to see what they were asking for it (not like I could afford it). I still have that fax somewhere, along with a fax I sent to another dealer to inquire about the McLaren F1 they had listed (yeah, I really couldn't afford that one). -
Yeah I’m my younger days I bought an older one out of TX that was repoed at auction. Motor and all hoses dry rotted. I rebuilt the motor myself ZX12R replace all seals gaskets machined the replacement parts myself for the Reverse mech. Wet sanded and clear coated all the carbon fiber and did a full paint correction on the candy apple paint. The front wheels were bent they are the same pattern as a Doge Neon so I put come cool billet wheels on the front to match the rear with fresh tires. Rebuilt the AP racing break kit with all new seals. I drove it for about 5 or 6 summer seasons. Then sold it for a massive profit to put enough capital down on a 2 family home. I ran my motorcycle dealer plate on it. But at the time only one company would insure them. So it was difficult to get insurance unless you had an impeccable driving record. Mine was less than stellar at the time (street bike life) I know I have old photos of it somewhere of me and the wife (girlfriend at the time) cruising in it back when we were just kids. It turned heads like nothing else I have ever driven. Gas station was a 45min stop because people would pull over to ask questions about it. It handled like it was on rails 90* turn 60+mph as long as you didn’t hit the gas or the break it would take anything you threw at it. You could throttle steer it but it snap oversteered like a 911 it took a lot of practice. Rack and pinion steering so it had great feel and the front suspension geometry is very similar to a Classic F1 car. It was a lot of fun to drive. When I retire I plan on getting a newer one with the Busa motor. They enclosed the engine on the newer ones so it’s much quieter to drive.

god youtube has ruined cars. tire chains with studs on the front? that thing handles like garbage i bet lol. thats the reason it has so many sub 2 second bits cause he couldnt hold it or run it on a real line ... those are the only good bits, the rest is probably a shit show. rich fucks doing rich fuck shit. a well driven MR2 spyder on hankas would probably smoke that thing.
