What book are you reading?

”The Wide Wide Sea” by Hampton Sides, this is about Captain Cooks last voyage. I recommend it, excellent read.
”In the Heart of the Sea” by Nathaniel Philbrick, this is the real life inspiration to Moby Dick. Another recommendation and excellent read.

Just finished Bill Brysons: The Body: A Guide for Occupants

Great book and his stuff is top notch. Great way to further your education and also be entertained. His "A short history of nearly everything" is also a must read and should be read by everyone to fill in the gaps of what you didn't learn in school.

Right now I'm reading Joshua Slocum's Sailing Alone Around the World about his voyage in 1900. I absolutely love old books and would enjoy and recommendations folks might have.

Without knowing what your interests are, I can recommend some of the older titles I really enjoyed. "The Sea Wolf" by Jack London, "The Ballad of the White Horse" by G.K. Chesterton ( absolutely outstanding poem), "The House of the Wolfings" - William Morris.

Almost finished with "The Forty Days of Musa Dagh" By Franz Werfel. Its historical fiction focusing on an really interesting event which occurred during the Armenian Genocide in which the Armenian villages took up arms and fought rather than face certain death through deportation. Thus far, its been excellent.

Just finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind not too long ago. A weird and dark book, but none the less, very interesting and captivating. "Scentless Apprentice" by Nirvana apparently is based off of this book. I definitely would recommend the read. Im planning to start The Castle by Franz Kafka this week.

Mary Shelly's "The Modern Day Prometheus" [Frankenstein] is another great classic read.

"The Ship Beneath the Ice" by Mensun Bound. I read "Endurance" so it was fitting to read the story of finding the ship.

It has been ages since I read any of the Eternal Champion stories.

I got most of the way through "River of the Gods" by Candice Millard and stopped. I didn't like.

Just finished The Three-Body Problem and now onto the next in the series, The Dark Forest.

What'd you think? The Netflix series lost me after a couple episodes but i don't know if that was the author, or the director.

Loved the book and second one is shaping up to be great as well. Smart scifi but was admittedly a little slow to engage on the first. Hits a point and then I was locked in. Plan is to check out the show after the books but not surprised at all if it lost you. The books can be a bit hard to follow at times, but I was also reading in spurts every couple weeks. Would be hard to adapt to the screen.

The show more felt like it devolved from mystery to "cupcake" sci fi to YA drama pretty quickly. I was hoping the book might be better. I'll check it out.
