during high flow applications, there is allot of turbulence in the tank and water can get sucked out the tank output port. at least that's my understanding of it. maybe it has something to do with the pressure/temperature change that causes moisture to form and it makes it way out...

sorry i couldnt help ya figure out what tank you should get but it does sound like a 220 line in your shop/garage is in the near future.

Well nobody can though because I'm just going to have to wait until a decent one pops up on Craigslist. I can't afford to buy new

good thing is though, that you didnt go out a buy a new 110v thinking it would work only to be in the same position and a few hundred dollars short. so not all is lost. play the long game and take your time.

That's the plan, although I almost scored a craftsman 220v yesterday for $50. The specs were not as high as I would like but I think it would have worked. Wasn't going to complain at that price

I was a little too late though, it had already sold

Thoughts? 10.2 at 90 PSI concerns me just a little bit because the blast cabinet I want to get calls for 10 at 100

So considering those numbers are probably fluffed a little bit realistically it may not quite meet the specs the blast cabinet wants but it is going to be pretty close

Seems hard to beat for that price. Plus it comes with regulator and separator it looks like.

Anyone have any experience with husky brand compressors?

I've found a few ingolsrand compressors lately, but in reading some reviews it seems their quality has gone down in the last 10 or so years. I've found a couple huskys and at first I didn't think much about them as I know it's a home Depot brand but after looking a little closer I'm finding they have really good cfm and psi numbers and there's some good reviews. So anyone ever had one?

Thanks everyone for the help, I managed to snag this thing today. Most of this is from the previous owner, so grain of salt but

                  60gal tank, 125psi
                  New 5hp motor
                  New pump, 15cfm at 100psi, 145psi max
Came with a second, brand new in box pump

Needs a pressure control switch to be complete
And I discovered that he mounted the motor all crooked so I'm fixing that

So if anyone knows anything about pressure control switches, I'd love to know

nice. looks like it just needs a little tlc and youll have a pretty good compressor.

That's what I'm hoping anyway. I actually had to drill 2 new holes to get the motor to line up correctly. He was that far off when he mounted it. But right now the motor is on, the belts are more straight and tighter.

I need to work up some cash but trying to do some research on pressure control switches and regulators. Realized I need both

one thing to note is that the pump should spin at a certain speed.
make sure the drive pulley and pump pulley are the correct diameter to spin the pump properly. (just something to check while youre in there).

Yeah I was actually thinking about this, since the outer lip of the pulley is not where the belt pulls, how do I measure them? I haven't looked super close at them but I haven't seen any markings on them either.

I've been talking with some guys on another forum that's more air compressor specific. Turns out I may need what's called a magnetic starter. Looks like it's best practice anyway. So the costs keep adding up.

                          Magnetic starter
                          Pressure control switch
                          Regulator
                          Electrician to wire it
                          Sand blast cabinet
                          Sand

Someday I'll get to use it

Turns out I may not need the magnetic starter. It seems like it's best practice for long term, helps the pressure switch by taking a good chunk of the load off of it and can help the motor as well. 5hp does seem to be the limit to just running a pressure switch. Most of the 5hp compressors don't come with a magnetic starter from the factory, mostly as a coat saving thing.

im not familiar with the mag starters. looks like they would be for your 5hp motor but you're only running 145psi max. if you have a dedicated line just for the compressor, you might not need it. (im NOT an electrician though). i dont know codes and have only added/moved breakers in the panel before. (under the guidance of an electrician).

the V belt should ride flush with the outer edge of the pullies. the actual gripping part of the belt is the sides; unlike a serpentine belt which grips on the face of the pullies.

since the belt rides towards the outside of the pulley, you should be able to measure the diameter of the pulley and use that number. it doesnt have to be exact.

the cabinet and sand was always an added cost no matter what compressor you went with.
either one (or both) might make a nice gift from your parents....
