Similarly, mags are a money pit that nerf your capability. The best guns for basic playing are space dildos and Phantoms. The best guns for buying a cubic yard of extra plastic are Tippman.

I would ask the guy why he wants a rifle in the first place first. If it’s all cosplay then go that route, but he may just want a rifle because that’s what he’s used to with pellets or firearms. Maybe he played once with a JT ER2 and knows he wants something longer than that but perhaps not AR long.

Or maybe it’s a bot. He’s still at one post.
I am used to normal guns, but I'm also very interested in more scenario/milsim stuff. I want it to feel a little realistic. Rifles are just cooler, if a bit less functional. And I think I want a hopper, not a magazine; from all I've heard, magazines are quite finicky and better for First Strike. I will be renting some equipment from a local store to try, and my playing will probably just be with my brother around our property. The typical field matches with inflatable pylons look meh. Woodsball intrigues me.

Everything else I talked about on AO pretty much everyone else here already said

If you aren't afraid to take things apart, I would actually recommend a Tippmann pro-carbine over everything else listed here.

I'd avoid the 68 carbine, the feednecks are problematic on the 68s. You can usually find a pro-carbine for about $75. They have a very military rifle feel to them, but also aren't as bulky as most of the other options suggested, so you get the military rifle feel and look, but don't have to sacrifice usability. They shoot MUCH better then modern tippmanns do, I suspect it's because the bodies are machined aluminum and not the casted crap Tippmann started doing with the 98s and later.

The only concern would be they are OLD at this point. So at a minimum you'll have to replace the detent, maybe a seal or two.

They are incredibly well built and absolutely work horses. The wear parts like detents, springs and cup seals are all interchangable with modern tippmanns so parts are both easily available and cheap. You can easily put millions of rounds through them, chuck it in a closet, let it sit for 15 years, and then pull it out and have it still shoot great after just swapping the detent.Tippmann Pro-carbines shoot great on Co2 or HPA, just be sure the tank has a high output regulator on it (800 psi or higher)

Just let me know if you do end up purchasing one, I have a a few extra seals and detents I'd gladly send you for free. I rebuilt a few recently and frankly these things are so damn reliable I am not expecting to have to rebuild them again until 2045.

As others have mentioned, stocks and paintball masks really don't mix well, I would just get a butt plate for a small tank. The old 9oz Co2 butt plates fit on the smaller 13 ci HPA tanks. If you HAVE to have a stock, they can still be found for the pro-carbine. At least, APP still has them listed as available on their website.

Here is a picture of my pro-carbine.

This is a great marker! I have a few in working condition that have been converted to magfed.

If you like ARs , you could pick up a used Tippmann TMC for a decent price. They're all over the place on the used market.

Make sure they still have the Hopper Adapter, and the False Mag included in the sale ( the false mag moves the ball retainer detent to a new spot when you run this gun in hopper mode ).

Grab a paintball vest, with a molle tank pouch on the back of the vest, and pick up a remote line kit . You could instead run a tank off bottom grip , but it looks weird on an AR. Another option is the TMC has a tank in stock adapter kit available, see pics below. On the TMC it does make the stock extra long in length though.

For a loader, pick up a JT Revolution (Revvy ) electronic loader (or a used original Viewloader Revvy). They're light, cheap , and all you need. Avoid gravity fed loaders, save yourself a headache with feeding issues, and barrel breaks, and just pick up the JT or VL Revvy,

You will find out pretty quickly though, that the lowers of any paintball mask ( even the ones with flex bottoms) are going press against the stock and feel uncomfortable. Which means in a paintball game, you won't be holding the paintball gun like you would at a target range with a real firearm.

You'll likely position up like these guys

If you can find one, a special ops paintball a5-a2 may be a good option. They are a customized tippmann a5 with sensible “milsim” accessories and styling.

And with that...welcome to MCB, one of the easiest places to lighten your wallet!

Jordan can speak on it best, but it started life as a PPS Hiricane.

Don't go magfed unless you’re going to get a EMF100 it’s the only one that doesn’t give you issues all the time. The buy in is high but it will work much more Reliably for you.

There are some great Home brew ones like the DamHammer7 and the MagFedMag that work well. Definitely not a first timer marker tho. The rest of the mag fed markers really function poorly from my experience.

If you’re looking for something that takes a hopper Tippman makes some great cheap options. I would stick with the mechanical ones they are bulletproof and a dime a dozen on the used market.

The Hammer 7 with DAM mags was cool. I never used it in a game, but it would probably be fun for first strikes.

The good thing about the EMF is they hold their value pretty well, so if you decide it's not for you, you can sell of trade it for something else.

I always cringe a little bit on the inside when I overhear how much a player spent on their T15. They could be shooting an emf100 for similar price and get a much better user experience.

Empire Omega, Planet Eclipse Emek, T4E HDS (fun option but you only have 2 shots and run 12grams I love mine), Anything Tippmann really. Menace if you want a cheap sidearm for fun. Some options for you

I would recommend Emek the highest not sure if this has a stock option maybe something you can attach to your tank. But I would strongly recommend not getting something with a stock because when you have a tank on the back of your gun it's kind of redundant. In my experience it just adds weight and makes the marker cumbersome besides you can't really aim down the sights like you want to with a paintball mask on. Second choice would be the Tippmann TMC which you can use with both hopper and mags in case you wanna try out magfed gives you options.

PS. Avoid .50 unless it's a sidearm just cause it's harder to come by some fields don't have it. Consider this a for fun secondary option

                      Just here to echo EMF100.

Maybe a bit higher priced for a newbie, but if you’re actually playing… it’s by far the most versatile… and they can be had <$400.

                      Hopper OR magazine
                      PE reliability
As milsim OR naked (basic, no frills) as you want it.. and can be changed easily to fit the game style.
                      First strike OR round ball
Great out the box, seemingly infinitely upgradable.
                      Availability.

If you’re actually going to play, go look up Planet Eclipse EMF100. If you just need a prop, any old tippman will do…
