    Pre2k won't catch lug then won't fire

Ok brain trust, I swear every marker that Super Nova gives me has some weird thing going on and this one is no exception.

Pre2k cocker, just did a full rebuild and everything is sealed up the only problem is it won't catch the lug on the sear.

If I adjust the lug down it eventually gets to the point where it will catch but then it won't release and fire. So I don't think it's a LPR pressure issue or stroke length as both of those are able to push the back block back far enough to catch the lug in that scenario.

I thought it might be the small chamfer on the lug was pushing the sear down so I took it to the grinder and now it's completely flat on the bottom with 90 degree corners, no change.

Swapped out the sear spring with a stiffer one, no change (I'm not certain these are actually sear springs I'm working with though, even still it feels good to me) nothing

Getting a little stumped here. Any of you guys ever encounter something like this?

if your sure its timed right, you may want to try to swap the trigger frame and see if that makes a difference

I can't really time it if it won't fire.

It's a pre2k without a threaded trigger rod so I can push the 3 way timing further back into the trigger stroke a bit and try again. I think I'm pretty close to the limit as it was leaking if I went any further back.

Now that I think of it though maybe I'll take the trigger rod off and cycle the 3 way without the trigger being pulled. I can see if it will catch in that scenario

Also worth mentioning do check the sear...

I had a similar thing happen with a new style shocktech roller sear. It drove me nuts for a few days and it turned out that the hardened part had chipped just enough to let the Sear slip.

I had an issue like this with a frame that I eventually resolved with a very stiff sear spring and a very light lubricant on the sear and plate.

It's not the lightest trigger pull but it's snappy which is how I like my Cockers set up.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

When timing, I like to set the hammer without air to reliably catch, but release very early. Then I know to only adjust it down from there, and any issues from that point must be timing.

If you can get it to catch without air, but not with, it really narrows down the problem.

If it won't catch even without air, well... that's a geometry issue.

              Ok tried a few things.

Yes the sear catches the lug every time if I pull the cocking rod by hand. I set the lug to release early in the trigger pull, it releases no problem

Here's where it gets weird, if I apply air, it will no longer catch when the ram is pushing the back block back and forth.

So with air I removed the timing rod from the trigger. If I pull and release the timing rod by hand, now the sear catches the lug. Pull the trigger and it releases as it should. Put the timing rod back into the trigger, the sear no longer catches the lug.

              Wrong timing rod? Trigger?

This is a ANS quick fire 45 frame. The timing rod was actually a little too large for the trigger plate hole when I started, it was oblong so I basically had to grind it and make it round then it worked.

One thing I have noticed, in the photos the timing rod is not holding the trigger, at rest the trigger plate hole is roughly in the center of the timing rod cut out. The timing rod is what stops the trigger at its rear travel. With the timing rod out the trigger can travel a little further back. I don't really see how that difference could cause the sear not to catch the lug though

If you can find a trigger plate with a timing rod slot (instead of hole), it's probably what you need

strange that an ANS trigger plate, 3way, and frame arent playing nice together

If you have the timing rod in and pull the trigger with no air, can you pull the cocking rod by hand and get it to catch?

Getting air right now but I'll try that when I get back home.

No. With the trigger pulled the lug will not catch the sear

Man this one is stumpping me. My best guess is the sear isn't coming up fast enough to catch the lug but I have the timing out about as far as I can get it

Anyone have a measurement for a pre2k timing rod? Or can someone throw some calipers on one for me? I'm wondering if the timing rod is too short or long

If the timing is TOO long, the ram releases the hammer before the sear comes back up.

So I literally had this same thing happen to me with an pre 2k ans slider. I changed out the sear to a wgp roller and works fine now. It would catch but as soon as you'd cycle it wouldn't. Here is the picture of the sear I pulled out. Works like a charm now
