    Another "new" owner

After years of casually looking, I finally scored the much lusted marker from my youth that highschool me could never afford - An early '99 Rainmaker! Complete and probably working (no air to test), and with select fire board!

The wife thinks I'm ridiculous since I haven't even played a match in over a decade, but whatever... Once I have this bizarre contraption working, I'll remedy that! Thanks to all on here, especially Jordan for preserving so much knowledge on the markers, especially the old MadMarty mods. I'm slowly going through the gun and will incorporate those improvements

Thats the MCB way..... Now that we are all "grown up" we can actually afford all those markers we couldn't in our youth.

The massive shroud and stubby barrel on the original one was pretty neat!

            I think you guys mean....

            ....."Pics or shens."

I assume we're going full early 2000s-era PBN?
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

I'll get some pictures up after I reassemble it!

For now, I'm CAD modeling some of the parts (3D printed bolt covers anyone?) and trying to clean up the wire "routing" while waiting for HPA, hose material, etc.

I just pulled a nylon bolt off the printer, a little shrinkage to offset (happens to the best of us, right?)

So of the design choices and build quality on these things is certainly "interesting". I've truly never seen a #5 fastener, #4 or #6 absolutely...
            But never a #5

Those upper receiver bolts are something, eh?

Everything torn apart and inspected, and everything looks reasonable. But I've got a reassembly question!

There was an extra washer not in the diagrams (large diameter) between the valve pin and spring. I assume this was to add preload to increase velocity?

Reattaching the grip frame, there is the one screw in the back (74) and one from the LH side in the front (44)... and that's it right? I ask because (44) is too short to engage and threads and I'm assuming just had age and some preload holding it in place before.

I'm not clear on the valvespring question, but there are only two screws holding the frame on - one 10-32 thread bolt at the back, and the front is an oddball one. IIRC it's 8-32.

Sounds like someone was in there beforehand with some shenanigans.

Shenanigans or manufacturing error, there WERE no fully formed threads in the front... Since fixed! So, here's a mocked up assu ... Nylon bolt, and a trigger over travel adjustment. Leads were pulling out of the solenoid so I re-crimoed those along with a new 9V connection. I've got a solenoid mounting plan using the exhaust ports and hollowed bolts ... Time will tell!

There's a reason MCB is basically known around the paintball community as that place that can answer any question.

If you are in paintball long enough, you'll probably end up here

And, it shouldn't go without mentioning, answer any question CORRECTLY. Both Reddit & Facebook are absolutely full of misinformation and wrong answers. For every user on those platforms with good information, knowledge and advice, there are 15-20 people who have no idea what they are talking about....MCB is where that good good is.

Ok, I got the carrier and hammer mods done and I'm trying to manually cycle the ram/carrier assy to function check and am running into an issue I could use help with...

Out of the gun: Everything locks up great and cycles as expected.
In the gun, with no hammer spring: Everything locks up great and cycles as expected
In the gun, with hammer spring: The hammer hook won't latch onto the carrier unless I manually press the hook fwd just a hair. The ram/carrier is set at 2.23 and I've tried as long as 2.28" with no change

                  Any thoughts?

Breakdown is it air'd up when you are doing your manual check? The hammer might be depressing the valve stem.
