    SC sniper build

Well most of you know how it goes, my secret Santa sent me pre-2k pump kit this year, and I certainly wasn't going to let that excuse slip by. Since then the build has been super easy, and I'm positive I'll regret saying that as soon as it's time to tune this thing.

I'm currently sick with the flu, some I'm going to save the first comment for photos and upload them when I get the chance, but things have been coming together really nicely.

I managed to snag an awesome purple and black acid wash body that I believe is a 94-95 for a good deal as it has some damage. The damage wasn't all bad though, as part of it was that the body was already tapped for a phantom feed, but has gotten the feedneck repressed too deep into the body? Shockingly I was able to pry the feedneck right off, and sure enough one of my spare phantom feeds fit nicely.

Otherwise the body also came with internals because the old-school IVG screw had been stripped. I sent the body off to BMC, and he's gonna extract the screw and thread the body for the modern IVG.

Additionally I snagged an APP slider, phantom feed and bucket changer, blackout screw kit, grips and the trigger shoe and a back block that I really hope will have enough clearance for the feed not to get scratched.

Once I get the body back I'm gonna place an order to inception for the bolt, cocking rod, and a stella freak barrel. Everything is a nice gloss black.

The challenge is probably going to be getting it to run nicely without a reg. I've read up on the topic a ton, and have seen arguments for both regged and unregged SC snipers, but I really wanna try and run this one unregulated.

If the body has an old style brass poppit valve leave that in if it doesn't leak. Those love high pressure

Thanks for the advice! I'm real excited to check it out once it gets back to me from BMC

Also.... It you thread that body for a modern ivg you won't be able to mount beaver tails

I hadn't thought about that, but it's totally fine by me. I don't have a beavertails on my other sniper and it hasn't bothered me yet. Good call though!

I did the same build last year, with the same intention (having an unregulated stock-class sniper, running the 12gram changer vertically into the asa on the body). I got close, ended up with the Palmer's high-pressure valve, but even then I was getting velocity spikes as the amount of co2 in 12gram changed, and my efficiency wasn't great. Ultimately I think I would have needed to go with much stiffer springs in both the valve and hammer, so I could sweet-spot it at much higher pressure... but then my trigger pull and pump stroke would be too stiff for my liking. I ended up putting a reg on it and I'm running a stiff valve spring with an ACP gold valve kit, seems to be getting roughly 40 good shots off a 12gram, it's hard to beat the regulated setup for consistency and efficiency. If you want it, I have one of the original brass sniper valves that has a very small port compared to the newer valves. Good luck with your build, I'll be interested to see how you make out.

Yea, reading through other members build logs and threads about SC snipers it definitely seems like people have had better results in terms of efficiency and consistency with a reg, which makes a world of sense. Unless the performance is pretty much unusable in terms of efficiency, consistency and stroke I'll probably stick with unregged for the dumb reason that it looks cool.

And I'll definitely keep you in mind once I see the valve that's inside/get results airing it up and everything

You could always go with a Palmers Cart reg. I may have an extra let me know if you want me to look for it.

If I don't have any luck without one then I will certainly hit you up because that does seem like an easy solution to getting the best of both worlds.

Small update, I have just about every part for the build unless I end up needing a cart Reg and BMC thinks he'll get to my body this weekend so things are moving along nice and quick.

Body will be on its way home from BMC tomorrow! Everything is coming together nicely, testing is going to be a challenge with my current living situation but I'll figure something out I'm sure

I haven't got a chance to test it out and probably wont until August or so when all this snow melts. Still everything fits together just about how I hoped it would and it looks nice next to my other sniper which I'm real tempted to steal to frame from

I took the day off after spending Monday and Tuesday shoveling myself and neighbors out and then yesterday shoveling spaces for my boxtruck and shoveling off two massive workboats in the rain.

I was gonna be lazy but then my valve tool arrived so I was able to open this sucker up finally. I pulled out what I believe is a Palmer's lt valve (right side);and replaced it with I think is a stock wgp valve (left side)

Either way, it airs up without leaking now, and sounds kinda right when I dry fire it under a pillow to avoid scaring my elderly downstairs neighbor.

Now I'm just itching to actually give it a test run but that's an update post for when it's warm enough that I can bring it to work

Well, I'm pretty sure it's finally ready. Works been insane and I haven't really been on land where I can test it, but it shot 241 with the ivf flush today.

The valve continued to give me trouble, so I just swapped it for a new WGP valve and am using a phantom main spring. The bolt block was oddly off a few degrees even with the feed off, so I swapped it for a tech t back block and that has really nice clearance.

Otherwise I just had to trim down the inception pull pin. I did a rush job so I can use the marker on Saturday, and it's edges aren't rounded enough so I have to back out the ball bearing in the inception bolt to reinstall the pin. I'll probably order another and do it right if it proves too be too much of a PITA to deal with.

Hopefully it's done, although I may throw a stock on it if it feels off.

Thanks! Apparently I like the anno scheme so much I had to have two of them!
