    Scored a PGP

    Hey folks,

I haven't played paintball in years, but I always wanted a PGP. Anyway, I ended up finding a pre 2k in decent shape on eBay recently. As I wait for it, I'm wondering what I should know about these unique little sidearms. I've done some research already, and it looks like I'll probably need to rebuild the seals soon. A CO2 quick changer would be nice, but appears not to be made anymore. I don't really plan on dumping too much into it, just want to make sure it shoots good and reliable.

I plan on taking it to the field and getting eliminated 57 times before I manage to eliminate someone. That's my stock class dream haha. But I want to make sure my marker is in good shape before I do.

Tether your rear feed cap to the marker (or try to find a speed feed gate)

You could also try to find a lever and cut a drop out for the CO2. one of your biggest handicaps is going to me 12 gram changes

Otherwise, give it a quick rebuild practice shooting it a bit in the yard…get to a field and let it rip!!!

A drop out, you say? So the idea would be that I'd only have to unscrew the cap a little to let the cartridge drop out?

        yep 👍
The 12g "drop out" so you don't have to remove the plug.

Question: would I have to remove the pump since the pgp is so short? I'm not too keen on that, as I've always had my heart set on a pump action marker.

For this one I made a custom pump handle with a notch and ramp on the side.

Brass is fun. I started with 4 PGPs very similar to your's. There's tons of mods to do, and plenty of people that do them 😉.

Do you know what kind of valve you have? If you take the hammer out and look, you will either see a square, or just a solid brass plug. The square means you need a valve tool, which you can make, and the smooth is a cartridge valve, which just pushes out of the tube. Let us know which one you have so we can tell you which o rings you need.

Here's a pic of one of my favorite builds. Freak bored, bolt action, break barrel single shot PGP

I'll check and post pics as soon as it shows up. I can't wait to restore it to its former glory.

          That's a nice marker there!

important question….where do you call home?

I’m sure you can find yourself a handful of MCB-ers relatively local that will hit the field wielding PGPs or other brass creations by your side

Didn't BretG mention something about possibly doing some fast changers now that PPS is no longer making them?

XEMON I'm a little confused on that one you have there how does that work with pump handle?

He mentioned in a comment, he carved a small ramp in the side, for clearance to pop the 12ie out.

Yeah I think I understood that part but my question is how does that handle pump the marker but then also normally hold the 12 g in? What happens when he needs to change the 12 g? Does the pump handle move more forward to make room?

The pump handle doesn't hold the 12g in. It stays in place when it's pressurized. To remove a 12g, unscrew the changer until it drops out. The pump handle would likely be all the way forward to do this. It normally wouldn't fit out there, that's why the pump handle is carved.

So I have to admit, as I'm waiting for the pgp to arrive, that I'm curious about a slightly longer barrel. Is that an easy mod, or does it involve a good amount of fabrication? (Ie soldering, having to make a new tube for the bolt, etc)

Ok got it now. I thought the pump handle was holding the 12g in or at least covering it up while at rest. Thanks for the explanation

Maybe I'll try building one some day. Looks fun

                      @jeepcreeper described it well.

Also moved the pump rod to the right side to make more room and an extended plug for better grip 😁

Yeah I did notice that, but didn't mention it. It's a super clean build and it did help inspire me in my venture with brass customization, as well as many others in the custom pic thread.

Here's a tip for you .... Replace the 12g piercing seal on it with a Phantom Cupseal, you'll almost never have to change it again
