    Angel A1 detents!

I started working on these about a year and a half ago, but outside forces and a stiff workload at times, kept me from being able to chase them down as quickly as I'd have liked.

I was asked in another thread about them, and since I had some new parts getting ready for molding anyway, I whipped up a small prototype mold. I just pulled the first ones this morning, and had a chance to test 'em:

So far it looks like they work great. Two full hoppers without a chop, break or misfeed. I'll be sending some out for more thorough testing on Monday, since, as you can see from the video, our playing season is still a few months out.

Once I've gotten some feedback from those testers, I'll make up a proper production mold, and start producing however many you gents might need. (Yes, I'll have both 1-piece and 3-piece cover detents.)

It's the same 2-part polyurethane I use for the Intimidator/Spyder detents that I've been making by the ton for like seven years now. It's more flexible than the original detent material, which should help them last longer and resist "taking a set" better.

Which came first, the one-piece covers or the 3-piece covers?

The first report I've gotten back showed a little more wear than I was hoping for, especially considering that my detents made out of the same material for Intimidators and Spyders, can and have lasted for years.

I'm kind of wondering if the 1-piece design came first, and the reason it was changed to the 3-piece was... well, that it was a poor design. I have no basis for that presumption, apart from thinking, when I was designing the prototype mold, that it wasn't the best design I'd ever seen.

I may need to borrow another 1-piece A1 for some more R&D. Anybody want to volunteer?

The one piece covers were definitely first.

This is awesome! Great work. The one piece eye covers are better in my opinion as they are a tighter fit and keep the eyes in place.... The 3 piece eye covers work but as I’m shooting I can see the covers flex out and in some cases flex so much that they pop out of place slightly

Some of my most exciting moments in paintball have been trying to get that A1 single piece eye cover off without breaking it.

Yes the 1 piece was first and considered bad and inferior and the 3 piece was a major fix.

I never used either enough to actually experience the differences though.

-That's what I've been hearing from other sources as well. This may be a case of simply having to provide a small "bulk pack" of the detents- 6 or 8, say, rather than just a single pair- and the customer has to swap them out as needed.

I mean, no matter what, 'rubber' detents are consumable, it just looks like these 1-piece ones are going to be a little more so than usual.

Both 1 and 3-piece styles are now up for sale in the Dealer's section.

Still kind of considering this a sort of beta test, but I'm confident they'll work just fine.

Supplies are limited for the moment, but more are in the works!

"Not" up for sale or "now" up for sale?

Oh, sure, like you've never had a typo.

                      (Er, fixed. )

I am rather surprised given both your location, and actual usage of the A1 that this would have been high on your "demand" list. Based on my own experiences I would think things like reg seats, cup seal/valve (and on) would be equally as important.

Well, I already had the molding equipment and materials, so this was just a case of simply designing new molds to work with the system.

But I am working on several of the others, too. If you have something in mind you need, just ask.

Doc, first post and signed up just for this - I just brought my two Angels back from the dead (one a fly and the other Magno'd Red dust A1)

I have been trying to source the 3 piece eye covers for about six weeks and was getting to the point of just reverse engineering them.

Stumbling across this, I want to confirm are you making / selling these? I'm (clearly) not a dealer, but would love to buy a few sets if you have them available.

                            Thanks!

I'm making the rubber detents, not the eye covers themselves. I'm not set up to do that sort of complex, hard-plastic molding at the moment.
