    The Evil Twin

    What hath science wrought?

Going from a suggestion in the Vee-Twin thread, while I had some of the fixturing set up for the batch of VTs, I got out a slab of spare 'looneymum and set out to see how well an over/under configuration would work.

It's also a test bed, since I was setting these up for the first time, using the larger 11/16" 'Cocker valves. The machining is straightforward, and actually even simpler than the old 5/8" style, but I thought it'd still be better to try it on a "spare" body, rather than a paid-project.

Been working on this alongside the rest, but figured it was worth a separate thread.

    Largely submitted without comment.

Single feed or double feed? Also that's a lot of real estate for custom engraving or milling!

Another Idea: To slim the profile down a bit and allow for a normal backblock to be used, the upper bolt could be a mid-block bolt that latches onto the lower bolt with a pin from the top.

Do you have any ideas about how to control the velocity separately in each barrel? Or will you just set it to the fastest barrel?

Im thinking you could simply put a restriction screw in each bolt. But adjusting would suck.

If it were mine, Id just get matched barrels and hope they were close enough.

        Single feed or double feed?
-We talked about that over on the Vee-Twin thread, and for this, it's going to have to be left and right side feeds.

Palmers' over/unders can get away with a single feed, because the barrels are very close together. The upper ball is not misaligned by that much- though we're told that even then, you're supposed to pull the trigger slowly and deliberately to make sure everything feeds and settles properly.

This one has considerably more separation between the barrels, so without some kind of actual feed mechanism or detenting system, it'll have to be a left and a right side feed.

Do you have any ideas about how to control the velocity separately in each barrel? Or will you just set it to the fastest barrel?
-I am given to understand that the Palmer's guns don't have anything to regulate between the barrels. This is kind of a proof-of-concept, and we're gonna find out.

However, if some sort of regulation IS needed, maybe a choke screw in the upper bolt?

You could always adjust with a freak bore go a lil over on the lower I assume will be the hotter shooting bolt.

-You guys don't have enough imagination: If you do separate valves (Gamma core, Automag valve, etc.) you could do a triangular triple.

Admittedly the 'Mag would be tricky with the mechanical sears, but a self-contained spooler core would just be limited by air passages.

So, who wants to commission one of those?

-It's nowhere near being able to be assembled, and there's still some work to be done- detent holes, feed necks, drilling and tapping for a grip frame, etc. Rough guess? It'll wind up maybe about a third again the weight of a stock body. (Stock, original, slab-sided body with the older full-size backblock, that is. )

I assume this is going to have a similar hammer / spring / valve set-up as the Vee-Twin? Since you are trying to pump out double the air through a single valve?
