When Smart Parts redesigned the Shocker to take over from Pneuventures, they removed the AA batteries and the on/off switch, requiring the use of proprietary non-rechargeable battery packs with no switch to prevent power drain or act as a safety.

The Gardeners have had shady business practices right from the start.

Not a marker, but the elder Gardner was a patent attorney, who was prosecuted and convicted of patent fraud, before Smart Parts was ever formed.

The Smart Parts "All American" barrel was originally a design to make it "self squeeging". If a ball broke, the next shot was supposed to push it all into the holes and the air would blow it out.

The Smart Parts "Magic Box" originally came from a fellow in the UK who called it the Black Box. It's just a chunk of pipe screwed into the side, to add a few CC of volume to the firing chamber. Supposedly lowers the chamber pressure from around 400 to around 350 psi.

The Jayster I'm not even sure it was supposed to do that. The only ad I ever remember seeing about it only claimed to change the "pop" on the ball from a "high pressure pop" to a "low pressure pop". That's almost verbatim.

Yeah, and that was supposed to get us more range and accuracy. Ha paintball in the '90s! 'Member venturi bolts? I could drone on...

Actually, I have a stack of old PB mags from that era stashed in my parents' basement and while visiting the other day I picked a mag up (APG) dated 1995 or 1996 and there was a Tippmann ad. The ad mentioned "we've outlasted every fad and gimmick in the industry". That was written almost 30 years ago and amazingly it can still be applied now. Of all the manufacturers listed in the ads, only Tippmann, CCI (well EV) and maybe Smart Parts (through GOG/SP/DLX) are still here. Sobering thought ain't it?

"Goggleflage", if any of you remember that, was- unofficially, of course- intended more as "bounce armor" than actual camoflage.

Paintball Mania/Nitro Duck made the first "screw in" air system, and it was originally sold as just the reg. It was intended for field owners who would buy a boxful of the regs and convert their 20-ounce CO2 tanks over to 1800 psi screw-in air tanks.

Now this I didn't know. Very interesting, but logical now that I see it mentioned.

The Mokal Titan will take Autococker barrels, the thread pitch is the same but the barrel shank on the cocker barrel is just a bit too long. So when threaded in , there is about a 1\8th inch gap between barrel and the receiver, but it is just cosmetic.

Pretty sure that was to correct a manufacturing mistake (the barrel shank being too short) and not a "feature".
