You guys are just now realizing this? They use the gamma core in most of their lineup these days
Why would eclipse make 2,3,4 different markers when you just make one and dress it differently?

With the emek, threaded bolt cap and the Swiss cheese valve body.

Why name it Etha 3? Seems more like a M170P (plastic). I like my plastic when design well, this is not a bad thing - Glock and many others, proved plastic is a workhorse.

Yeah, I've got the 3m. There are some other differences I think.
I do not think the triggers are interchangeable.
Overall I'm very happy with the marker. It's not much to look at. But as far as a workhorse goes, it shoots paint really, really, well. And I don't have to worry about dinging it up in any way.

Branding. They want "Etha" to be associated with <$500 plastic and GTEK/GMEK (or M160/170/180/ect) to be associated with mid-priced aluminum. They want to sell at both price points so they need to make the two guns sound as different as possible so that GTEK/GMEK buyers don't save their money and get an Etha.

Naming them different means if little Jimmy has the etha, he then wants the 170 as an "upgrade" and once he has it will swear to you until the yeti is found that it shoots way better than the etha

Same principal as car makers taking a single engine and sticking it it in 5 different models. It saves on manufacturing, spare parts to stock and R&D costs.
This is exactly why I went ahead and put FLE bodies on my Emeks. It's about the same price as a M170R and it's exactly what I want. Heck, I currently have a 3M with a 170R front grip frame. They all have their slight differences but having the same solid core makes them more appealing to me. I know what it's going to do and it's just a matter of what I want it to look and feel like.-------------

they were all identical - DM line had a larger dump chamber to advertise lower pressure, that was the only difference.
-
latches109 is correct. There were also small differences like eye wires vs ribbons. But they were pretty much identical.

If the ergos on the 170r and the Emek/Etha platform were the same, maybe the 170P should be a thing.
But, they're different. I like the engine analogy made above. For better or worse, the core is so solid PE can separate its marker lineup from Etha3 to CS3 focused solely on features.
Going back to cars... Whether it's a Honda Odyssey or a Type-R they both can go the speed limit... One just has more bits to tickle your diddles.
