Did they mostly give up on making semi auto paintball pistols?

Yeah there you go, that's a fantastic reason. I always encourage people to go out with the pistol only, similar to a stock class player that way.

Yep. Same as the Pepperball-branded Tippmanns.
Kinda neat that they resurrected the TCR, though.

Never get a bounce off of one? I see you've been spared from being forced to use GI Sportz Field Paint.....

If you do your maintenance right your primary isn't going to break

One extra pod will carry more paint than a pistol with multiple magazines if you are worried about running out

If your primary is so large that you can't clear rooms or go around corners effectively maybe look into why

        Typically range is less

It's more gear to carry around

People forget that pistols stick out on their legs. They are extremely easy shots when they stick out from behind cover because you will never get a bounce off of one

If your reason for carrying one is "it's fun and I like it" cool, go for it. That's a good reason.

But from my point of view there is no tactical reason to carry one and people often try to justify why they carry them.

And I'm sorry but IMO the only good pistol that was ever made was the agd sydarm. I wouldn't even say it was great either but much better than anything else ever made

I used to carry a PGP as a backup, but that was back in the days of C02 when you A: couldn't predict when your main gun would run out of gas and B: since you had to pay for gas you ran your tank until it was empty. In those days (especially with how long games could run) having a small, gassed-up and ready-to-go backup could and did make sense. Especially because your main would announce its out-of-gas status to everyone within earshot by emitting what I jokingly call the "Burp of Impending Doom".

These days though with modern HPA tanks, short game formats and markers with better ergonomics, Trbo323 is right...sidearms are just plain obsolete in the practical sense. Carrying a pistol only would be a fun challenge that some players would and could embrace...but for a company looking to build a pistol that's a niche-within-a-niche market.

Result; don't expect any new, legit for-playing-paintball pistol-type designs anytime soon.

This was a while ago now but the first 10ish minutes are me playing a big game with a pistol. You can see just how much time I spend reloading and swapping CO2 over anything else. After this I determined that pistol and in general limited paint play was not for me.

At one point, 4:20 I find another guy carrying 3 markers on him. One primary and 2 pistols. Wild

As a sidearm? This is 100% correct. There's no real point in having a sidearm in paintball. There's this idea, and while I think it predates video games, it's codified in video games, that a sidearm is there to sort of "compliment" a primary weapon. In video games, it's often faster to switch to a sidearm, than it is to reload a magazine, for instance. It's a fun balancing feature, but it's not how things work in real life.

In real life, a sidearm is there so you are still armed whenever you do not have access to a primary weapon, or when that primary weapon is impractical for your current situation. It's not complimentary, but supplementary. There's really no practical reason to carry two paintball markers on the field at one time.

That being said, I have my own hot take as to why pistols aren't really made much anymore, besides the fact that they aren't useful as "sidearms". I play "pistol only" most of the time, and really prefer playing that way. If given the choice between pump, and pistol, I tend to go for the pistol. I think the platform has some distinct gameplay advantages, even if it's not quite as versatile as a standard, full sized marker. Besides people looking for a "sidearm", I feel like pistols have just been conflated with a cheaper, lower quality, less reliable, "beginner" product. Not something to be taken very seriously. The first paintball guns were pistols that pretty much everyone "moved up" from, and the majority of plastic Walmart specials have been pistols. The Talon was a pistol, the Stingray was a pistol, etc. In the modern day, the JT ER2 is a pistol, AND the new Splatmaster is a pistol. The majority of old blowback pistols were not the highest quality, and were not particularly reliable. The Sydarm, and Squall, were pretty much the only "good" semi auto pistols for a long while.

Another reason is that, even people who get passed that bias, and see the merit in the platform, very rarely do so initially. Almost no ones buys a more expensive pistol as their first purchase. It's not a platform that attracts new players, only niche experienced players. That's a recipe for low sales volume. And the majority are, again, interested in them as "sidearms", and not unique primary markers. I'm actually a little surprised the TiPX, and the FSC, are still made for paintball. I'm guessing just leftovers from the less lethal arms bin.

Not to mention not many are going to go out there with a pistol against a bunch of electros, I sure as hell ain't I'd rather just use a SC marker

I've done it with my single shot, buuuut i was shooting FSR. Very satisfying to pop one or 2 shots out and get an elimination.

I mean, isn't that the truth about pretty much everything else? I'm pretty sure that's the reason most fields restrict electro ramping speeds to slower than an experienced player can walk a good semi these days. It was pretty miserable for a long time to go up against a team of electros with anything else.
