I think one of the big things is people finally started to realize that pistols are pretty pointless.

If you do your maintenance right your primary isn't going to break

One extra pod will carry more paint than a pistol with multiple magazines if you are worried about running out

If your primary is so large that you can't clear rooms or go around corners effectively maybe look into why

Typically range is less

It's more gear to carry around

People forget that pistols stick out on their legs. They are extremely easy shots when they stick out from behind cover because you will never get a bounce off of one

If your reason for carrying one is "it's fun and I like it" cool, go for it. That's a good reason.

But from my point of view there is no tactical reason to carry one and people often try to justify why they carry them.

And I'm sorry but IMO the only good pistol that was ever made was the agd sydarm. I wouldn't even say it was great either but much better than anything else ever made

Yeah there you go, that's a fantastic reason. I always encourage people to go out with the pistol only, similar to a stock class player that way.

I think what you mean is that the concept of a side arm or “backup” in paintball is pointless, which it most certainly is. Paintball games last 20 minutes. If your main gun can’t function reliably for 20 minutes then that is most certainly the problem that needs addressing.

Q: What if I run out of paint?
A: A PGP or Tippix is bigger and heavier than a pod of paint and contains fewer rounds.

Q: What if I run out of air?
A: Running a slightly bigger tank is always more space efficient than brining another gun.

Q: What if I’m switching mags?
A: If you’re using mags at all you’re in cosplay land. If it’s about playing dress up then it’s not about efficiency or better performance or economy of space or any definable metric so do whatever you have to do to get your freak on. Applying logic to illogic is pointless.

Q: What if I just want to look cool?
A: Do it.






Pistols are however not pointless if they are your only gun, as was the case in the 80s when %90 of guns were PGPs or Splatmasters or Nelspots or PMI1s or even today if you just don’t want to carry around a lot.

I catch so much grief at msg fed only games because my standard set up is three 20 round mags clamped together and that isn't "realistic"

There are absolutely advantages to using first strike rounds and you are not using those with a hopper.

Embrace the challenge of the Pistol! I run just pistols, both pump and semi. When I play semi I only use a pistol simply because it's hard and makes me have to work to get in close enough to try to get an elimination. I have a modded Delta .698 that has that godawful piercing assembly replaced with a much better design and a Zeus feed with a speedloader so no mag changes needed, I simply dump a 10rd tube into the feed, snap it closed and go
