    Phantom wood handles

Playing around with laser engraver. Decided to try and make a pump handle with it and see if could be done.

There made up of 38 layers of 1/8 plywood glued together.

Brown one is basic copy of the t-handle the ripple was hard to clean and came uneven,
So, on the whitish one I made them smooth so it could be cleaned easier.
Now working on a third one. Will be making this one a little fatter. Found a few spots that get too thin after sanding.
Will try a 4th round one to see holds up on the lathe.

I would be interested in buying one. Would look very nice when stained. Think you could make grip panels from the same material so it matches?

Yes could be done. But if I did they would more likely be just basic cut outs, The time involved in just getting to that point would almost be in the too expensive to be worth it.

I'd buy one. I'd also buy one of those shims you whipped up for your old kits.

Those shims only work with this batch.

I'll pm you. I got a used pump kit, and I think it's one of yours that needs a shim. But I'll confirm in pms.

I would be worried they would swell if they get wet. paint oils will likely eat the glue over time to,

          They do look cool tho.

          These are super cool.

Can I recommend soaking them in a wipe-on urethane after glue- up to protect them from the elements?

Vacuum chamber and Cactus Juice would work even better.

Now that's some cool stuff. But to be worth it for the setup. I would need to make a ton of them.

When you perfect this to your liking I will definitely be in the market for one. I have a Mozak blank body build coming up and a good grippy wood pump handle would be a perfect fit!

Going to have to rethink these handles. I broke the one prototype in half twice in 2 different areas.

Think I'm not getting enough pressure on them when pressing the plates together. Might have to make some kind of jig for it or just drop idea.

I know I like to use Vacuum bags when gluing up layers of veneer. I normally use PV glue typically plenty strong but you can use penetrating epoxy as it gets better penetration and is stronger in the end.

These would be dope with just some boiled linseed oil and or bees wax.

ever think of making them out of cut leather instead of wood?? Laminate them together, would be like the USMC Kabar handle.

                    That would be cool.

I did find a fix to wood. Just need to refine the assembly of them, but they do look awesome. Pictures up soon.
