    Reviving a parted out SL74

I purchased a parted out SL74 a few months ago in hopes of bringing it back to life. The hardest part was tracking down a solenoid for it and I didn't want to buy a used gun just to part it out.
Instead, I designed a manifold for it to use a LV1.6/LV2 solenoid and gasket. The only tweaks I made to the solenoid was sanding down the screw retainer slots and screw heads for it to fit the frame, as I didn't want to modify the frame in any way. Also, I designed a voltage regulator circuit to drop the output voltage of the ego board from 5V to 3.3V and added JST connectors to make it plug and play.

I don't have shooting videos of it yet, but I've had it ramping at 15bps with no issues. Currently, it's set to 10.2bps for local play.

I've added a black SL3 reg, feedneck, and pops asa. I couldn't track down any reasonably priced QEV's, so instead I added some banjo barb fittings from McMaster-Carr. Next, it'll be off the anno.

Let me know what you guys think of it. I have two manifolds and a few voltage regulator boards left, but I can get some more made if there are any interest.

I didn’t realize the new LV solenoid used a 3v pilot.. good to know

Would you consider selling the voltage regulator and manifold as a kit? There are lots of older egos currently relegated to paperweights because of solenoid issues. I would buy a kit for sure.

Oh wow. This is really great work.
The SL74's are so fun. Really love that era ego.

I think I may have seen that up on ebay? Too bad the seller took the ASA.

I would love to get one of your custom manifolds and regulator boards. PM sent <3

Yeah for sure. I need to get barbs for them first.

I am pretty sure my old ego 7 still works, but I'd also buy a manifold just to have back ups.

Also that manifold will work for the etek solenoids which will save you about $100 or even more because you can find them used

Probably not. Screw hole locations are different between the two.

I have one manifold and board left on hand, ready to be shipped out. PM me if you're interested.

So, the new solenoid, does it have metered flow valves on it? I'm just wondering if you ant make the ego 7 smoother with this change.

It does have the valves on it but I feel like it acts more like a QEV.

Hey, I actually joined MCB just to talk to you. Got an ego8 I'm reviving after not playing 10+ years. I replaced all the orings and the reg seat. However the manifold on the solenoid is f'd / leaking air as of yesterday, and I can't get the retainer clips out to replace the orings on the barbs.

Is the manifold/voltage regulator you made for the LV solenoid still available?
                  how much?
What would I need to use it? Assuming the actual solenoid and a gasket? Or would I need another set of wires to hookup the voltage regulator to the board itself?

I was pondering this exact thing last night when I found this thread. Do you have any manifolds or regulator circuits left?

Finally got around to sending the gun off to anodizing. Came back within a week from pootypaintball.

                        Here's a shooting video:
