Calvin's multi-Minimag resurrection fail to win thread.

I am beginning to reassemble the remains of 4 once proud Minimags. I haven't airsmithed in 17 years, so I chose the one platform I have no previous experience with. Having asked multiple questions in posts and via PMs (many thanks for the replies), I decided to stop contaminating the rest of the forum and concentrate the silliness to follow in one place. My minimum goal is to get 2 of these running again. If a 3rd sputters to life against all odds, that will be peak winning. The primary is starting to come together. Most of the orings are ordered, and I have one new main seal on hand. The primary will be running twistlock barrels with BW TPU detents. The backup will be running Docs AC adapter. There will be sooooooo many stupid questions and clarifications to follow before I can successfully get my butt back onto a paintball field.

As someone who has recently fallen in love with mags, I'll gladly follow your adventures (and misadventures, but hopefully not too many) through this.

The BW detents work well but since you will have more than 1 I would recommend to order one doc adaptor to try. Or to find a ULE body

I just received one in the mail today! It will be in my backup. If it proves radically better than twistlocks with TPU detents, it will be promoted to primary. I have multiple twistlock barrels on the way in my old favorite flavors. One new to me is a stock RT barrel, which research tells me uses two detents. If true, that might be a great setup as well. It just feels great playing with metal bits again. Didn't know how much I missed it.

Have you tried dumping some oil in them and airing them up? You would be surprised what mags can do. When I got my mag I estimate it had sat for 10+ years. It shot just fine

They were all filled with rotten tan urethane orings, buna, orings, teflon tape bits, dried paint residue, and sand. Three out of four valve springs wrecked. All but 1 missing seer springs. I have never owned a more sadsack bunch of markers in my life. I didnt need to waste my air to know what I would encounter. The reason I went with Automags, aside from having always wanted one, is the stainless steel parts. Once they are working, they will be tough to kill.

This brings me to my first issue. I currently have 1 seer spring for 4 grip frames, 3 of which are in good enough shape to use. Are mags sensitive to the seer spring type? I have found some at the local hardware store that are similar, but not exact matches. Not seeing any for sale on ebay either.

Sear spring? No sear spring, so sounds like you have 1 too many.

I mean technically there was a questionable mod with a tension spring to pull the trigger forward, but ain't nobody got time for that. Maybe you have a sear spring for a WGP sniper/cocker? they used the same (ish) frame. It would be a little bigger than a 1/4 inch and kind of a mid level stiffness?

Do you mean bolt spring? Square wire, fits over bolt? That's a very specific spring.

As I stated, this is a platform I am just starting with. 1 of the grip frames had this spring in this space clearly designed for a spring. The other 3 frames did not. Most manufacturers don't take the time to design in a spot for a nonexistant part, so please forgive my confusion.

Yep, that's for a Sniper, you can ignore that, just set it aside and you are good to go. There is also a slim chance that is a trigger for a Sniper if it is kind of a dull grey metal, and that would bind (as I recall, it has been 30 plus years) on the sear, and might need to trim it, if it causes you trouble, or just switch to one of the other frames.

If it is a plastic GF nylon, then you are good to go.

Thank you for the info. Its a nylon frame that looks identical to the others. I will remove the spring and carry on.

Super discouraging day. I cut down a powerfeed on the most beat up minimag body I had, and cleaned up the cut nicely. Sanded down the body 240-600-1000 to remove the most of the scratches, but not leave it too shiny. Everything looked great. I knew a 16" Dye Boomstick from Ebay with AC threads is out for delivery so I go to do some work. Just received Doc's AC adapter yesterday, so I plan on installing that in the newly prepped body upon return. I get home, and immediately knew that the 10" long package on my door was trouble. The "Great Condition" 16" Boomstick had been pulled apart into two pieces at some point, but was shown together in a single photo for the listing as if it was still properly assembled.

I figured I would go ahead and install the adapter , only to discover it's not AC threaded. Not sure what the threads are, but only an old F1 Illustrator barrel is close to the diameter. I'm not worried about Doc's adapter. He'll make it right. I must admit, I forgot what a shady cesspool buying used PB gear online could be. Everything I have purchased so far has been maximumly abused, and now fraudulently so. I will get through it, but needed to vent.

                        Rant off.

I'm in a similar situation as you re: getting back into paintball. Took me a month to gather my gear, started rebuilding my Intimidator and hit some snags, got super discouraged. But once I had one working marker and finally got back onto the field, it was such a blast that it motivated me to finish the other projects. Don't get too down my dude.

To make it better, Doc just let me know that this was a Spyder barrel. Having not even looked upon an AC barrel in 17 years (sold all mine then), I didnt even realize it. This is gonna be a rough ride.

Easy enough to get your money back from eBay so no biggie. Lesson learned.

Very true. A good run just drove the bad vibes from my mind.
