People care too much about s*** that don't actually make the game better or fun.

Well, you're not alone. There's a reason why mech has made a comeback even at the pro level. And there's a reason why 7-10 man format hyperball and woodsball has made a comeback. My local field is doing uncapped semi and mech only hyperball and woodsball, We're going to pretend like 2006+ didnt happen.

Palmer and Carter guns are overrated.

They shoot "better" because they're heavy... which makes them more stable firing platforms. That said I still wouldn't mind a Houndstooth, Blazer and slide trigger Carter in my collection someday.

I think everyone owes it to themselves to mess around with a Nasty Palmer's gun...that's where the magic happens IMO.

As for Carters, I think there are better shooting guns, but I have always tended to keep mine because they have a great feel of history and hand-made craftsmanship to them. Sometimes they are a little rough around the edges, but I find it gives them a little extra character compared to other guns. They're very obviously made one at a time - at least, my Pre-"Mini" guns all felt that way.

Here's one that should be controversial...if you respect the idea of handicapping yourself with a pump gun, you should probably stop shitting on mag fed players for doing exactly the same thing. Your A/T pump with a full sized hopper has way more firepower than most mag fed rigs.

Depends on the magfed player. I played because I like semi +the reloading mechanic. Happy to run with a bright pink mg100, do not care one bit about playing army.

Same. I like the equipment and the play style. I don't do it to LARP or pretend I'm G.I. Joe. It's effectively like playing semi-auto stock class with heavier setups.

You won't catch me wearing a full vest and helmet, but there were plenty of dudes doing that before magfed was a thing.

Maybe now, but 20 years ago they blew most out of the box right out of the water, probably why they're so favored on here.

I'll still take one over whatever the current flavor of the month is.
The problem I have with palmer guns is they are maintenance queens..... Sit to long... Gonna leak....use too often... Gonna leak.....different atmospheric pressure....gonna leak..... Using air not co2.... Gonna leak.

I've rebuilt my typhoon twice since buying it because every time I want to use it it leaks.

It was amusing watching people complain that there P/A pumps were not legal at some pump tournaments.

As I was thinking about this thread, I realized that I must have hit "cranky old man" status. Kinda sad.

                Anyway-

1- Don't like anything made after 96. Most everything in the last 25 years has been soul-less. Its like modern cars. Yes, they are great, and fast, and safe. But blechhhh\

2- But, don't like cockers. Cool? sure, but I used to get so annoyed when teammates would miss tournament games while "tinkering with the timing".

3- And, don't like mags. Mags were the source of every penalty our team ever got in the early 90s. Hated them, still do.

4- Don't like brass. Its soft, and heavy metal. I've seen plenty of sheridans dropped, only to end up with a bent barrel. I dont see the attraction

Barrel length is almost irrelevant in between extremes.

Barrel porting is irrelevant, and only affects the sound signature.

Bolt design is irrelevant (save for in some spoolers where it's part of a redesign of the airflow.)

With very few exceptions, valve design in a 'Cocker or most stacked-tubes, is irrelevant.

"Low pressure" is a side effect not a goal.

Lightening a marker by five or ten grams is irrelevant.

Making the cocking mechanism on a 'Cocker too light and fast can be detrimental.

Looking down on another player because they have what you consider inferior equipment, is stupid and small-minded.

I [we] have no responsibility to "grow the sport". You want to grow the sport, go for it, have fun but I would rather play paintball to have my fun. If patronizing fields/stores is not enough for the paintball to survive maybe it does not deserve it.
