What is your screen name story?

Back in the AOL Instant Messenger Days, I was in high school and went through a bunch of screen name options to figure out what "fit" me best. Turns out the first option was what stuck and all the subsequent screen names came and went. What I WANTED was SharkyTheSharkDog and I don't remember exactly why I thought that would be cool, but it was too long for AIM. For additional reasons I don't remember, I thought SharkyTrav was a good substitute. Not really a fan of it anymore but the longer it represents me, the harder it is to get away from. I don't hate it, just not as clever as I'd prefer these days.

An additional fun twist is that my Xbox tag is Shakytrav (missing an r). I camped out in front of Best Buy to get an Xbox 360 on release night, got home and set up my account while wired/tired and whiffed on the fact that I misspelled my own name until someone pointed out the difference weeks later. I left it as Shaky because I was playing a lot of shooters that showed you camera angles from the person that shot you. My aim was super spastic and I figured better to lead the charge on making fun of my own bad aim than to face the wrath of everybody who watched the kill cam after I managed to take them down.

When I came back to MCB after being away from paintball and MCB (wallet hurts again). I could not remember my screen name I had.

Tried to come with something I remember, so mine is combination of my son's school, his nickname and the year I became a dad.

Summer Camp between 4th & 5th Grade a camp councilor caught wind of my last name being Loveday and from that day on I was Chucky Love. My buddies at camp turned that into Chuck love probably to sound more manly? It has stuck ever since. Way easier than putting any combo of Charlie Loveday on the back of a jersey.

Besides the obvious anime reference it means "the good word" in Greek

I hate to tell you this but anime references aren't obvious to normies 😁

It's job inspired. I make trucks. Not by myself of course.

I used to use "Spitfire" and variations thereof because I love history and flying, but everyone thought I was a skater for some reason

I wanted a unique online screen name back in the late 90's and I lived in Tampa at the time. I decided Cyber for my IT career and Pyr8 for the Gasperilla pirates and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Plus at that time I might have been (allegedly) pirating some stuff off the Internet before I went legit. 😜

      Mines pretty simple.

Screenname started back when I was more into car forums. I had this car. STILL do.
      Its a 1987 Mercury Cougar 20th Anniversary.

Yes I also still have the Iroc in the background.

This picture was 2-3 years ago I had to move them out from storage for a couple days. Unfortunaly they were covered in morning dew when I took a picture. And the cougar has no brakes currently. lines a broke.

Well, just like the legendary Chad Thompson, I am quite comfortable with having my real name as my screen name. We are simply awesome to the degree that it is borderline impossible to improve.

I shoulda used my real name but as a child of the 80s I was programmed to believe that someone will rob, beat, and otherwise abuse me if I use my real name on the internet

This reminds me of a song by “Watsky” called “Fuck an Emcee Name.”

      I’m simple!

My name is Jonny and when I signed up for MCB I had dreadlocks. People called me the “Dread Pirate Jonny”. That’s it.

LOL I just had a weird dream about AOL instant messenger.

I came up with this when I joined PBN in 2004, then kept it when originally joining MCB in 08 or 09? I was really into a band called An Albatross and they had a song called I am the Lazer Viking. SoOo cooOl dude! Not really what I'm into anymore but revisit it for nostalgia once in a while.

Ok, this is going to make me sound like a moron, but I always just sorta skimmed past your name, and I thought it was "I am the Lizard King". Now that I've actually taken the time to actually read it, I've realized how stupid I am.

Haha, that is A big part of the reason I wanted to see all these stories! I am repeatedly having these realizations that ive read names wrong for like 15 years. I always thought RobertSr was Robster until the lightning micromag thread got some traction in MCB 3.0

When i first started using the internet back in 2000 or so using my Dreamcast, i had to come up with a screen name when i joined S.T.I.N.G. The Simpsons was by far my favorite show and, frankly, I’m just not very creative. I tried many variations of The Simpsons characters’ names until i found one that wasn’t taken.

In the early days of my web access I created a "real" email and my "alias" email. I used the alias for all the online forum stuff. It is a play on my wife and I along with a reference to my birthday. It isn't so much that I like it as much as it simply isn't used anywhere. Even to this day I can register 99% of places and it isn't taken. I have seen a few close.
These days there is so much result in web search that it isn't truly an alias for me any longer.
