Agreed. I have two mech Ions I am working on right now. I would love to see pics of the whole setup. Are you using a small form factor lpr for the reg? Must know more!

Nice, we need more pictures of the complete build!

Kind of a necro bump, but I've built a lot of specialized mech ion builds, so I thought I'd share one of the schematics I've used over the years. The basic difference is the elimination of the t fitting. This was for a custom magfed ion that just didn't have space to fit a t fitting, so I put the reg in the grip, used a thread protector and tapped it for two 10-32 fittings, and ran the air like this.

Did you need to use a custom smav mount to get it to work in the excty or did you just dremel out the pin between the two upper grip screw holes?

Got the Ion up and running. Had some shoot down issues but rebuilt the reg and all is good now.

I have a SP-1 with a leaky valve cap that’s ripe for a mech conversion. Would be interested in seeing a smav mount for it.

Machined my bolt for the dual o ring, just have to get on making the smav mount. Incredibly helpful info here. 🫡

Maaaaaan, we talked about this on Reddit. Lol! I'm prepping for WCPL along with life stuff. I planned on starting in on it after I got back. 😉

He recently machined two ion bolts, a B2K bolt, and a trilogy feed neck for me. 🤷‍♂️ Try FB

Is Stanchy still in the biz? I can't get him to return my emails.

I won’t comment on a diy attempt. SSC is local to me and charges $10/bolt for the dual tail mod. It’s worth it to me to meet him at the local field and just trade cash for work.

What do you suppose the degree of difficulty would be to doing this with a mounted drill press and a hand file?

I saw a confirmation that the Tippmann Stryker bolts are just dual-tail Ion bolts. Very cool there’s a drop-in upgrade for mech builds for those without a nearby machine shop.

I don't suppose there would be any way you could adapt your SMAV mount to work on an SP-1, is there?
