in order to do that I need to be able to use a Chuck on my lathe. However my lathe came to me with a 5C collet changer (no Chuck) and a turret (no tailstock). So I got a 5C Chuck forever ago and it doesn’t thread on correctly. The Chuck threads seem to interfere after a few turns.

I decided to try to fix that and got a die to chase the threads. It’s a 65mm die and my few ideas on how to turn it without the handle have not worked all that well. Was hoping to avoid having to buy the handle to use it one time, but here we are. Tank reg for scale. This thing is beefy.
What methods have you tried so far?

You might have to look around to find a place that takes mixed turnings as scrap and even then it's not going to pay much. I don't bother saving them for the small stuff I do even when it's copper or titanium. Well, sometimes I save the titanium ones and light them on fire or use the ribbony ones to dial-in an anodize color.

Just got told I have next week off work and a Hardinge lathe popped up locally… if it’s still available Monday I may need to figure out a way to bring it home. Week off means it may be time to clean up the garage.

Nothing is more motivating than having it sitting in the driveway with no where to put it. Haha

-Which one? An HLV or HLV-H, hopefully. The DV/DVS models can be made to do useful work, but they're "plain turning"- no threading, no power feeds, etc.

-Or only being able to clean, sand and paint while it's outside. In an area not necessarily known for it's stretches of warm, dry days.

HC , I have one at work in our manual department that used to be absolutely beautiful but now has pretty bad taper in the cuts. Makes me sad, it used to be amazing.

But I’m excited a hardinge is the perfect size to be a second garage lathe lol

That's a pity. Odd that there'd be that much demand for what's little more than a specialty turret lathe, I keep being told that turrets in general tend to get scrapped because there's no real interest in them.

That said, there's a few machine brands that are to some extent more desirable- like the 10EE, an HLV-H, a Heavy 10, a Bridgeport mill, etc.- that will attract more attention, and thus, if you see one up for sale, you gotta pounce.

I sold my Atlas shaper a while ago. I decided to pick up a Taig mill (manual non-cnc). I have been really impressed with the capability of the little Taig lathe, and decided to pull the trigger. Both machines are certainly small, but I use them for >90% of what i do.

Made the cutest fly cutter using only the Taig machines. Neither had any trouble with the 12L14 I used.

Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_1800.jpg Views:	0 Size:	6.64 MB ID:	731164 said goodbye to my lathe yesterday. I wasn’t really looking to sell it but it’s getting harder and harder to justify keeping some of them with the machines i have access to at work. Plus 70hr work weeks don’t leave much time for side work.. but now I made room for a cnc lathe

XEMON for a vast majority of my cnc code I use fusion 360, however a bulk of my machining experience has been on lathes so assuming whatever machine you’re on can read canned cycles, it’s significantly easier just to program by hand.

I was planning on playing paintball today, but the guy I was messaging about this lathe last night let me know it was mine if I wanted it. I've been lathe shopping for awhile now, but I have a few different criteria to meet for me to want to get one. I had to be within 3 hours one way, within my weight class where it would fit in my ford maverick truck, and be within the 300-600 price range. This met all 3 of those criteria, the catch was I had to rake everything. Thank God for engine hoists. It took me all day, but I got this Southbend B9 lathe, Milwaukee toolbox/bench, and a ton of tooling for 200 dollars. The motor assembly is still in my back seat, I'll dig that out later this week. This was the most I've ever hauled in my tiny truck and I'm pooped lol.

That's always the hard part, isn't it? I can't afford riggers and I don't buy tools often enough to have a hoist.

That is a nice haul, that blue thing looks like a slip roller was that included in the price? What's your plans for this equipment?

yeah, the blue thing is a sheetmetal roller, I'll probably take that off the bench and use it somewhere else in the shop. I've been making pump mag parts and plan on making my own pump kits. That was the drive for wanting to get a lathe
