I didn’t get one because I don’t think the thread profile are right. I bet it fits the body bout it’s going to leave a gap using that length insert. They need to be bored like 1/8” less so the insert sits more in the breach don’t it. Looking at it again the bolt tip seals on the body so it shouldn’t cause a blow back issue on the phantom. But it will leave a gap between the body and barrel insert with no oring you could lose a lil pressure out of the threads but I doubt it will be much of at all. Depending on the tolerance of the insert it could move around. Maybe it don't make a difference the Nova insert is a larger OD so it possible it wedges against the body still just deeper into the breach.

I think CCI makes the best barrels and I have a bunch already for the Phantom so I’m glad they fit the supplied slide insert. I’m going 6” fixed bore and going to let the ASP detents do their job.

(Top is Nova, bottom is Freak / standard fixed bore CCI)

That's what I needed to hear because I tried threading the barrel into 2 of my phantom bodies and it was a rough fit. I have to check my phantom thread adapter for deadlywinds

I bought the nova barrel kit. Without the inserts in my bored CCI and Nova barrel, it fits all the way in to the body. You can feel a slight catch transitioning from the body to barrel when I used a toothpick to pass through the breech. With CCI insert, it was a smooth transition from body to insert (.684) With the Nova barrel with insert there was a slight catch. I'll try it out the barrel next weekend to see if it has any negatives effects. Lol I can't even tryout the nova slide because the two phantom valve I have is modified where I can't fit the slide on 😅

Off topic, but what's the going rate for a Mongo feed?

Please do let me know what you find out. As for a mongo feed, I remember when PBGateway was their own entity and they sold one piece feed before extreme velocity took over phantom production. I think back then was $50-$65 but that was before Mike Casady retired( so probably over 7 years ago at this point.

Nova inserts aren't great quality either unfortunately. Either noticably out of round or a bunch of awful tool marks on the inner bore.

The out of round is due to NOVA slightly crushing them for their Helion (N3). As the N3 need s the insert to stay put when the barrel moves. I suggest buying the inserts for master sconi pb as he is the manufacture of these.

Same with the N1. Out of round on purpose. I’ve never had issues with the inserts.

Roger. Trying to start the return process now. Hopefully they don't give me any grief or charge me restocking fees. 6 out of the 7 inserts have that line and the lip once barrel and insert is mated to the phantom body is off putting.

In reality the scratch will not affect anything it the paint shot. But its good you are returning them, as this lets them know of QC issue AGAIN!!!

Got my V2 slide in - Marked improvement from the original. The one thing I don't like is the factory CCI return spring binds like a mother when dry fit. I may have to find another washer or something to put that in place. I've been using return springs on my phantom for so long it feels wrong without.

I didn’t even try the return spring. You might have to shorten it Murph.

Mine seems to be binding at the top of the breech. I am guessing that the barrel insert is too short/not long enough for the barrel to ride on. Creating an angle due to the sides not being supported.

The Duckslide does not have this issue.

What barrel you using it’s likely your Barrel profile or it could be binding on your feed pushing it down into the barrel to. You need a barrel with a smooth exterior profile.

I am using a standard CCI barrel. Tested on both the Nova and original Duckslide.

The Nova leaves marks on the top of my breech. Maybe my pump arm needs to be backed out a few turns.

Nova duckslide barrel is booty cheeks.

The threads are obviously the incorrect spec, and the insert has enough space to rattle on both my bodies

Debating returning it and just cutting/boring a stock barrel, or maybe cutting some freak inserts long to fill the gap

That's the same with my Nova barrel too. I might want to return it as well

I also have the same problem with the barrel I received. Attempted with 2 different breeches and neither one was able to accept it.

What a shit show ... Spec for the threads are available ... Pure laziness ...

Out of frustration and lack of patience in returning the item... I've decided to FAFO and removed some material from the rear of the Nova Phantom barrel. At first I was considering to modify some Freak inserts, but then it would be too much work shortening every size I wanted. So far, everything seems to work awesome after the modification granted now that my barrel is recessed into the slide more than it originally was. But for functionality, I'm ok with it.

The stock 6” sits about the same distance from the end of the slide as well.

I understand that when creating a product for the first time, you may miss some things...but I believe there is more than enough available info out there on these decades old pieces and could have been made MUCH better, which would have lead to less work and headache trying to fix the problems.

So in addition to the V2 slides, are they going to do a v2 barrel and replace all these messed up ones?

It certainly makes me question their prototyping process before putting these things up for sale.

The barrel is correct size at 6 inches, however it's barrel boring that was milled too deep where the insert is flush to the lip of the barrel back that causes the barrel to recess as it is. By me cutting the back to allow some of the insert being exposed allows the insert to rest onto the breech wall of the body so that there will no longer be any wiggle but of course that would recess the barrel even more. To be frank, I just didn't want to bother with the hassle with a return, from already an unpleasant situation with the v1 slide release. That said, I even kept the v1 because I didn't want to hassle with my slide having to go back and forth and potentially more of the same haha. But barrel works now, may not be pretty to some, eh... i'm ok with it I guess.

Is your a smooth transition going from phantom body to insert? With my kit, it thread on fine. Sat all the way to the rear similar to the stock barrel. However the diameter of the insert seems to be smaller. All of them have a lip that catches when I used a toothpick to slide it down the breech. None of my Freak insert matching size for size does that. Smooth transition from body to insert.

This is how the barrel looked before being cut. There was still a slight recess with the barrel fully seated. If the inserts were slightly longer by maybe 1/2 inches then there would be enough material from the insert to rest unto the breech wall of the body if that makes any sense. The problem is, these barrels were bored too deep where the insert sits flush to the lip of the barrel

By threading the pump arm further into the brass insert, I believe the barrel can be made flush. However, causing the slide to bind at the top of the breech.
      Working...
