I wanted to share some pics of a possible paint breakage fix I'm testing for Part-time Tech
This is a 3D-printed TPU detent replacement that seeks to stop the bolt from breaking paint at the moment of firing. Tech's initial thought was that by using the rounded, flexible detent arcs you could ensure that each ball is positioned as far back as possible, in the hopes that the bolt will be moving slower when it first makes contact with the ball, and that ball and bolt would move together for a short distance before it's shot. I've tried using them in a different way and nestled the balls as far forward as possible in an attempt to prevent the bolt from contacting them at all. My results have been mixed- no improvement with larger ~.684 GI paint but maybe around 50% breakage with some smaller .678 Empire paint. Certainly not enough to make the gun usable, but maybe an indication he's been on the right track.

Installing the detent inserts is not trivial- the hand sprocket and factory detent insert must be pried out and then each detent channel extended all the way back with a hobby knife, which isn't particularly easy given the tight confines of the cylinders.

Anyway, still working with this in the hopes of fixing the design. I do wonder if what would be more effective are cylinder cups that would hold the paintballs farther forward and out of reach of the bolt but I'm not even clear on how far forward the bolt intrudes into the cylinder wells during each cycle. Does anyone know?

      I like the idea.
I can measure how far it poke out this we if you need.

Has anyone access to a cad of the cylinder?

Looking forward to seeing more progress, but I stumbled upon a file on thingiverse the other day. Someone designed these mags with oring detents the only killer is they modeled the ratchet teeth into them, so they have a short lifespan. Maybe we should remix the cylinders to simply take the metal ratchet parts from a factory cylinder.

This remix adds a 52mmx1.5mm oring detent for players still using ball. Still a work in progress. No print settings as of yet. Due to tinkercad issue, do not download yet. Many thanks to the original designerhttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5527569

Edit, that's a remixed version of a more complete file without the o rings we should be able to make magic.

I forgot all about this project. Probably about a year ago i made these spacers that go in the cylinder to eliminate alot of the "rollback" that these guns have. These inserts fly out with the ball but either tumble a few feet or spin off to the side. I didn't record any sort of testing but it did seem to reduce breaks at ~270 fps

I've used it at 3 so far but I could see some fields not allowing it.

Maybe I don't understand but Wouldn't the bolt smash into the epoxied face and either destroy the cylinder or not fully cycle?

That's kind of what I'm envisioning, but with these discs permanently glued into the cylinder wells to act as spacers and protect the ball from the bolt. The real question is how far into the cylinder does the bolt intrude, because if it's so far that there's not space for a ball to escape crushing, this isn't going to work.

I've tried using little tuffs of tissue paper stuffed into the cylinder ahead of the balls if the discs would be an issue, though not with particularly encouraging results- the balls still get broken.
This had been useful with my Sellswords .50 revolver to keep the balls from falling out of the cylinder prior to being loaded, and definitely needed to pack the balls into the various NERF revolvers I've tried using with .50 paintballs.

Is there a picture of the bolt itself somewhere?

It is nearly completely through the cylinder.

Ah. My only frame of reference was the 3357, where there's almost no cylinder intrusion.

Been wanting one of these but it seems like they are just blenders, are they usable at all?

Shooting first strike only out of mine... I break one here and there but I usually attest it to very old first strike rounds. They break in my mg100 as well.

        Never shot regular paint

Unless some fix is found, total blenders.
Mine typically breaks 19 balls out of 20.

Mine hasn't been that bad. Maybe one out of each 5 in a cylinder.

Anybody figure out how to make it shoot near 280? At supergame and it shooting FS at 170 sucks

ODST101i can only get 1 shot at 270 before it drops to 220. I drilled out the volume restrictor thing to do that.
