I would say it is more frustration than it is hate.
Multiple people have offered advice, designs, critiques and solutions for some of the things that nova has designed and released. Many of those things were not implemented, but were clearly pointed out early in production. I know because i regularly talk to some of those people that offered advice. They want people to enjoy and shoot autocockers, not see them as a pain to work on because of changes that could have and or should have been made pre-production with a simple conversation.

Shortened the quote to remove a bunch of autococker specific detail, but i feel like this applies to this very specific situation.
Maybe they should have had someone that actually uses a phantom assemble and test it..... before going into full production.

It certainly feels like they tricked guys into Beta testing this…
Hopefully, they do what they say and make it right both for those buyers and future versions.

I don't think that was their intention, but this certainly rings a similar bell to the cockers. Though a lot of those issues could be fixed during assembly. This not so much.

Hopefully this can help some of you that bought one of the Nova slides or Nova can use it to fix their mistake.



The slot on my slide is 13/16” wide. A CCI 1 piece feed will fit.

This is the barrel clearance of a CCI barrel in a Duckslide. The hole is a hair over 7/8”.

Their previous incarnation WarMachine's ACI Turret knockoff was similarly rough IMO, that just stayed rough but I don't think it was nearly as popular as this one.

This has definitely been a let down. It does feel like the consumer is doing the beta testing and a lot of mistakes made that should have been caught before they were sold.

Man... after seeing the videos posted, I definitely have buyer's remorse :/ Hopefully the guys at NOVA are standup fellas and do right by replacing those slides with corrections.

Center hand load it locks back with a side slide lock. Should have some shop time this weekend to machine the body out and bolt it all together. This should give me something to mess around with till I get an aluminum slide. I just ordered a trigger shoe like yours in black. I got that round bst feed from Colby and I’m putting a Carter style aluminum feed gate on it another member made a while back for me. But that will go on when I get an aluminum feed. The printed one is set up just for hand load and a sim look. Even has fiber optic sights and a mock suppressor. If I find the video of how it works before I get it together I will send it to you.

As much as it sucks, I think domestic quality is just as varied as the cheapest import. It's all about the person, the equipment, and the communication. And I've met some American manufacturers who tend to communicate through a glass bottle more often than not. One foundry I used, the owner was unreachable after lunch, or unintelligible if I reached him.

I'm happy to hear that Nova produced in the US. Both because I want to encourage US manufacturing, and because they'll likely have more recourse to fix issues easily. Good shops certainly cost a lot more here, though.

If anyone cares, my advice is always to have 2-3 domestic suppliers with overlapping but distinct capabilities, and a foreign broker. Get a prototype guy who loves the challenge but isn't tooled for volume, a production guy, and a backup for when one of the others is slammed. Then get a foreign shop for the high-touch, low impact parts that take forever but nobody notices, like a Spyder VASA with two big threads, machining on four sides, and no moving parts. Sometimes the cheap labor on the dumb stuff makes a fair wage on the important stuff viable, without the whole project going over budget.

Low volume production is tricky in that way. You really need to choose your battle, because you don't have time or volume to optimize and automate everything. At very least, though, the design intent has to be there. Words are cheap.

It would be fairly easy to fix the issues at hand on the V1. A Delrin bushing would do wonders for the slop. Or clearance the slide at the back to fit an ASP cocker body and use a Doc Bull Cocker freak barrel. I’m planning on using a different feed anyway my round one would fit that slide easily as is it’s much more low profile then the CCI one.

Hopefully, they can get it squared away and the spec right. I will buy one if they can get it right.
